Jason Hsuan said he believed the company had met its sales target of US$7 billion in 2006, up about 40% from US$5 billion in the previous year. Prices for liquid-crystal displays have been sliding worldwide as competition intensifies between the likes of LG.Philips and Samsung Electronics, amid fears of an industry-wide glut this year. "Average selling prices are going down, but we still increase unit shipments by more than the declining price," Hsuan told Reuters in an interview. Yet despite concerns of oversupply, TPV plans to tack on display-making capacity and ship more displays this year. It also plans to ship 4 million to 5 million LCD televisions this year, almost double the 2.5 million it managed in 2006. Hsuan said TPV wanted to double its market share in flat-screen TVs to 10% in 3 or 4 years. Hsuan said the company is also studying the possibility of adding a new LCD plant in Mexico to serve the American market, a plan that is likely to be finalised by September. And it might build another plant in an ASEAN country, such as Vietnam, after 2009. The company plans to spend US$100 million-US$130 million in 2007 in terms of capital expenditure, up from US$80 million-US$90 million last year. "Most likely the CAPEX will be US$130 million because we are going to construct a new factory in east Europe, instead of buying an existing one." "We don't have plans to buy plants now." TPV said last month it hoped to finalise a US$35 million deal to buy and expand an LCD TV plant in Poland, but Hsuan said the company now preferred building a new plant. Construction of the plant in Poland, which will have a first-phase capacity of 5-6 million units per year, will finish in the second half of 2008. |

It is a matter of time Philips Electronics will sell away their share in TPV, they became a shareholder due to legacy issues, when they sold the plants away to TPV. |

It said on it expects to expand revenue 14% to US$8 billion in 2007 by sharply ramping up shipments of LCD televisions and monitors. The company, which vies with Taiwan's Innolux Display Corp., hopes to ship 36 million LCD monitors in 2007, versus 28 million in 2006, Chairman and CEO Jason Hsuan told Reuters in an in interview. In January, China's BOE Technology Group, sold up to US$141 million worth of shares in the company in a deal that left Dutch electronics giant Philips |

It is quite common that when a stock started to fall by a lot, many investors will jump in to buy more because it's cheaper than before. But when the stock has fallen to a level when few are interested in buying, that is the time it will start to rise from the ashes. My Favourite Stock Market Books |

I suppose the time is ripe for the funds to add it in their trolleys during their new year 'shopping spree'. How wrong can they be? I mean fast forward and think about year end. I would say chances are this counter would ahve climbed to a level which will turn the fund drivers' faces into smilie icons. |

Japan's Fair Trading Commission confirmed Tuesday that it is investigating price-fixing claims against South Korea's LG.Philips LCD and Samsung Electronics, as well as against Japan's Sharp. On Monday, LG.Philips said the U.S. Justice Department and the Korean Fair Trade Commission were also looking into the industry. A JV between Japan's Seiko Epson and Sanyo Electric, which specializes in small LCD screens for mobile phones and digital cameras, is also part of the probes. According to one media report, the investigations could be focused on prices that were in place several years ago. LG.Philips, a JV between LG Electronics and Royal Philips Electronics, vowed to fully cooperate with authorities, as did Samsung. Analysts said the investigation may focus on actions from some years ago. A news report from Korean wire service Yonhap speculated that the probe may zero in on suspicions of collusion during 2003-2004, when LCD makers had better control of the market. "From what we have heard, the investigation may be stemming from a situation two or three years ago when the two companies were selling LCD panels at comparable prices," said Michael Min, an analyst at Korea Investment & Securities. LG.Philips was the world's No.1 maker of the large LCD panels used in flat-screen TVs and PC monitors in 2005. But this year it has been overtaken by rival Samsung, which teamed up with Japan's Sony. |

TPV could fall on this news. LG.Philips shares sank after the company said it was one of several LCD makers under investigation in the U.S., South Korea, and Japan for alleged price fixing. Samsung shares fell less sharply and approached a five-month low. Producers in the US$69-billion LCD industry are already hurting from falling panel prices. "The news is another blow to LG.Philips," said analyst Jeff Kim of HyundaiSecurities Co., "as this kind of probe was totally unexpected." |

I bought at 1.05 today. My assessment is if the X'mas sale of LCD is good, it will push the share price up..... |
