Scary scary... I also just learnt through a friend who works for Hotels that a hotel can amend a signed credit card bill and add in more items if they find that things are missing in the hotel room without needing you to sign the bill again. |

About one year ago, an internation bank's credit card data was stolen(dunno how) and many customers' data was leaked to those people who were up to no good. They used these data to clone CR card then made purchases. That's how you get charged an amount in a country you never even set foot on. It happened to me... a couple of the charges in US and Japan over two months (in two different statment). I protested in the first month, the bank just writeoff those items. When it happened again in the next bank, they knew that potentially my account was one of those being cloned. They just sent me another card with a new cr card no. Also, many online US merchants accept only US issued CR card. |

It may not be due to "blacklisting". It might just be that the US (or other countries) merchant just does not do international business i.e. they do not ship outside the US, or want to handle disputes from international cardholders. That is the reason why SingPost and some companies set up a mailing address in the US that you can use for your orders to be shipped to, and they can arrange for it to be shipped to you in Singapore. |

singaporegal, yes this is true. Some US websites have so-called "blacklisted" some asia countries due to high credit cards fraud cases. And unfortunately, Singapore happens to be within this region geographically. Too bad I guess. |

Does any of you have this problem? I was trying to buy something online from a US website but my Visa number was not accepted. However, I can use it in Singapore with no problem. |

I got a shock when one international bank billed $6700 on some charges that were incurred in India when I didn't even visit that country.. The most "scarey" and pissed-off experience was when one local bank charged 10 times the amount I swiped at a Toa Payoh restaurant. End up I called that bank to complain about the dispute, then was promised that prompt actions will be taken. Ya, taken, the next month this disputed figures was add-on to my current spends and with interest on that disputed figures. So call again, then same old stuff about prompt actions then 2 times interest plus disputed figures. It only ceased (when this thingie happened for the 3rd time) when I decided to So it really pays to check your statements unless one got too many zeros behind until count oso become mad.. |

2 days ago, I am just wondering myself. Mostly my transaction is thru internet. Transfer fund from one bank to another, pay broker, pay bill, etc. Not sure whether it has missed some of my transaction or not, but need to close watch now on. Thanks guys for reminder. |

Yup! I have learnt my lesson and now only pay by bills through Cheques. I disabled the auto-GIRO deduction thing. |

I was double charged recently to my credit card by an international bank recently and some time back there was a mistake in my local bank statement where they deduct more than they should....I agree totally to check ur bills regularly! I dun trust my statements wholly..always double check after these incidents.. |

This was what happened to me - I have a credit card from an international bank. One day, I was checking the bill and found that there were some items in the list that weren't mine. I called up the bank and they investigated and they realised that it was a billing error on their part. Apparently, some staff had mistakenly manually key in items into my bill. CHECK ALL YOUR CREDIT CARD BILLS! |

I dunno whether is this is common but I would share with all of you a experience that my sister's friend had encoutered. A particular bank had called up the "victim" and informed her that her $3000 savings in her savings account had been withdrawn out at a Marine Parade branch. The "victim" was obviously shocked as she doesn't even "visit" Marine Parade and her workplace and home is not even of close proximity to there. She also had only one atm card which is still intact in her purse. She decided to call back the bank. Around 1 week later, that bank called up and said it is a error on their computer part and money had been "restored". Imagine the shock one might received. I will not post the name of the bank so that my buttocks can be "protected", and I am not sure whether is this type of "errors" common with the rest of the forumeers? |
