Given the cheap PE and great demand for iPods, I believe it'll do well. It said it is upbeat about the prospects for its business because of strong demand in the consumer electronics sector. The group's financial controller, Freddy Fu, told XFN-Asia in a recent interview that in the past few years its business had usually been seasonal, with the second half of the year contributing about 60% of its revenue in any given year. But in the five months to May, the group's net profit surged 248% yoy to HK$21.6m, on the back of a 53% jump in revenue to HK$203m. In view of the prospect of higher sales, PlastoForm is looking to set up more production lines, enhance its research and development activities and collaborate with third-party designers and engineers. To pay for this, the IPO is meant to raise $16.7m in net proceeds. PlastoForm executive director Rick Weisman said: "We want to take advantage of the IPO proceeds to get into the market faster, get all the right equipment, get all the right human resources -- and, certainly, we can jump really higher." At present, the group produces 6.78m pairs of speakers annually, and this figure is set to rise after its IPO. PlastoForm also hopes to bring previously outsourced activities in-house to improve margins and quality control and to speed up product delivery schedules, Weisman said. In view of the demand, PlastoForm will introduce several new products next year and is now looking for a marketing partner for these products, group chief executive Chiu Kwong Fai said. "The demand for personal audio devices like MP3 players and mobile phones is increasing, so we are focussing on developing products for this kind of market," Chiu said. To address consumer demand for smaller, more portable speakers with a more appealing appearance and higher performance, PlastoForm said it will incorporate two new technologies into future products -- the Hi-X speaker driver and Class HD amplifier. Weisman said PlastoForm would be the first to introduce these technologies, starting in its multimedia segment, which covers MP3 players, portable digital videos and gaming devices. "We'll apply these technologies there first because that's our [core business] and that's a growing market," Weisman said. "We hope to be right in the middle of that [growth]." PlastoForm's key markets are the US, Europe and Japan, and its main customers include Minebea Group, Dell Inc, Sony Corp, Victor Co of Japan, Spectravideo PLC and dreamGEAR. Spectravideo supplies speaker systems for MP3 players, including Apple iPods. |

The Company refers to the newspaper report in the 6 Oct 2006 edition of Today newspaper where our executive director, Mr Rick Weisman was quoted inter alia as saying that the Company plans to launch a speaker system in January that connects with Apple Computer's iPod music player and that the Company will alsoannounce a deal in January with an unidentified major customer to sell speakers with its patented Hi-X speaker-driver technology. The Company wishes to clarify as follows: - 1. Statement by the Company's executive director, Rick Weisman As disclosed in the Prospectus, the Company enjoys a close working relationship with Spectravideo plc ("Spectravideo") and currently supplies Spectravideo with a range of portable speaker systems for MP3 players including iPod, an example of which is the "Logic3 i-Station docking station". Such products manufactured for Spectravideo have been designed to be iPod compatible. Newer versions of the "Logic3 i-Station docking station" for Spectravideo will continue to be developed and designed. These new versions will continue to be compatible with Apple's iPod players, as its predecessor versions. On that basis as its ongoing business, the Company hopes to be able to launch a newer version of the "Logic3i-Station docking station" by January next year. 2. "Made for iPod" program The Company will manufacture iPod compatible products for Spectravideo, which will in turn distribute the same through their Logic3 brand name. Whilst the Company does not directly participate in the "Made for iPod" program, it understands that Spectravideo participates in the "Made for iPod" program through the iPod compatible accessories manufactured by the Company for Spectravideo. For example, the Logic3 portable speaker products which the Company manufactures for Spectravideo currently carry the "Made for iPod" logo on its packaging. 3. Deal in January with unidentified major customer As disclosed on page 90 of the Prospectus, the Company intends to market their products using the Hi-X speaker driver technology and the ClassHD technology to their customers in the fourth quarter of 2006. The Company hopes to achieve some success from these marketing efforts and hopes to be able to announce its first such deal in January 2007, subject to customer's production launch which is not within the Company's control. The Company confirms that no deal or agreement has been entered with any of its customers. |
