i believe dow to correct to 10700 to 10500 region for a double btm before it bounce back. However this is an estimate w/o significant world event to shake the TA. |

Stocks battered at open Major gauges continue recent slide amid stock downgrades, record oil prices, geopolitical unrest.
Stocks slumped early Thursday, extending the recent retreat, amid record high oil prices and new concerns about corporate profits in the second quarter. The Nasdaq composite (down 17.78 to 2,072.46, Charts) tumbled more than 1 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial average (down 29.47 to 10,983.71, Charts) and the broader Standard & Poor's 500 (down 4.89 to 1,253.71, Charts) index both saw smaller declines. Stocks got pummeled Wednesday on a mix of tech-sector woes, geopolitical tension and concerns about earnings. Thursday morning brought no relief from these concerns. |

Wah seh.... STI headed for trouble today... Wall Street gets walloped
Major gauges slump in broad-based stock selloff, led by tech-heavy Nasdaq, amid worries about earnings, economy.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Stocks slumped Wednesday, with
tech-sector woes spreading to the broader market, amid concerns about
corporate profit growth, geopolitical tensions and the mix of higher
inflation and slower economic growth.
The Nasdaq composite (down 38.62 to 2,090.24, Charts) tumbled about 1.8 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial average (down 121.59 to 11,013.18, Charts) and the broader Standard & Poor's 500 (down 13.92 to 1,258.60, Charts) index both lost around 1 percent. Bonds were little changed on the session, and the dollar surged after the trade deficit rose less than expected for May.  Oil, gas and gold prices rose. "We're continuing to see weakness in the Nasdaq and semiconductors and that sucking sound is now taking hold of the broader market," said Steven Goldman, market strategist at Weeden & Co. Thursday is not expected to bring much relief, with little economic news and few market-moving earnings reports on tap. |

Stocks fall on earnings concerns Disappointing results from Lucent, EMC drag on tech shares.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Technology stocks fell Tuesday as investors reacted to a string of disappointing earnings announcements. The Nasdaq composite (Charts) tumbled 0.6 percent after the market open. The Dow Jones Industrial average (Charts) and the broader Standard & Poor's 500 (Charts) index both posted slimmer losses. Lucent Technologies (Charts) said Monday it expects third-quarter earnings to fall due mainly to slower sales of wireless network equipment in North America. The warning came on the heels of another tech disappointment, as corporate data storage equipment maker EMC (Charts) reported results that missed its own targets. Dow component Alcoa (Charts), which kicked off the unofficial start to the second-quarter earnings period late Monday, also disappointed investors with its results. The aluminum producer reported a higher profit but disappointing sales for the quarter. |

Dow slammed by 3M, jobs
3M tumbles, Dow, Nasdaq close down over 1 percent after job report points to weak hiring, rising inflation.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Stocks tumbled Friday, with the Dow and Nasdaq closing down over 1 percent, after disappointing corporate news and the monthly jobs report pointed to slowing growth and rising inflationary pressure in the world's largest economy.  The Dow Jones (down 134.63 to 11,090.67, Charts) industrial average and the Nasdaq (down 25.03 to 2,130.06, Charts) composite skidded 1.2 percent. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 (down 8.60 to 1,265.48, Charts) fell 0.7 percent. Oil fell fell more than a dollar after setting another record high earlier in the session, Treasurys rallied and the dollar sank. The Nasdaq was the week's big loser, dropping 1.9 percent. But the Dow also ended the week down 0.5 percent and the S&P finished 0.4 percent lower. Next week kicks off second quarter earnings season, with reports due from Alcoa (Charts) on Monday and General Electric (Charts) and Pepsi (Charts) Thursday. Analysts are expecting an overall strong quarter, with concern centered on third quarter guidance. And while there are no major economic reports scheduled, investors will still keep an ear tuned for any clues on how the Federal Reserve will move on interest rates at its next meeting. |
