I think GS will trade on its own steam for this week with all the excitement of its opening and CNY.  After that, it is anybody's guess.  But there are alot of great factors going for it this year, MBS or not.  It is up to each investor/shorter to do his/her own homework and weigh it with some common sense.  It is just too much energy trying to time a share because no one really knows its highs or lows, not even the FAs.  Look at general intl and local economic outlook for this year (don't think it will be bad, in fact rather promising with US slowly coming out of its worst) and for Singapore itself (with GE coming, there will be effort to put on a good show).  

I am not a shortist like you as I believe it is more risky shorting than buying, unless on margin. I invest but I do get out if the scene turn ugly.  I don't think the scene will turn ugly for GS in this month.  There will be too much excitement in its opening and the crowds will make it look so happening!  Good opening timing with CNY period.  Good luck to all shortists, btw, I think there are too many shouting short, short, short now which is not a good sign just as when there are too many shouting buy, buy, buy.......
