Genting to fund $5.2b casino project by selling shares, debt Group may sell $1.7b in shares as early as year-end, and take up loans By Lee Su Shyan, Companies Correspondent INVESTORS jumped on board the winning bidder of Singapore's second integrated resort (IR) yesterday, amid news that about $1.7 billion in shares will be sold to help pay for the mega-project. The share price of Genting International shot up 10 cents to a record 51.5 cents since the listing here last year, in frenzied trading of 286.7 million shares. A consortium of Genting and Star Cruises won the Sentosa IR bid last Friday. The consortium wasted no time in unveiling funding plans. It said the $1.7 billion of shares could be sold as early as this month. The other two-thirds of the proposed $5.2 billion investment would be funded by loans, it said in a brief statement. The group beat two other bidders, a consortium of CapitaLand and Kerzner International, and US-based Eighth Wonder, to win the project. Genting chairman Lim Kok Thay said: 'We have great support from the local financial community. We see a big part of the financing done locally. We are hopeful that it can come even this year.' He later added: 'I hope that we will make the offering this year...there's not that many days left.' The Sentosa IR is expected to open by early 2010. Genting and Star Cruises will contribute equity in proportion to their stake in the investment vehicle - 75:25. It is believed that the group is looking at various options such as selling shares to existing shareholders, according to how many shares they already own. Or they might simply sell shares to existing or new shareholders. Genting's chief financial officer, Mr Tan Hee Teck, said announcements would be made in the next few weeks. 'We are in the midst of making all these arrangements. We have to look at the group in totality because of the acquisition of Stanley Leisure,' he said. Recently, Genting bought Britain's Stanley Leisure, which runs 45 casinos. It is believed that Star Cruises, which has its main listing in Hong Kong, will raise its share of the funds from the market there, while Genting will raise its funds from the Singapore market. Mr Lim added that Genting hopes to recoup all of its investment after seven years of operations from 2010. This is based on a 15 per cent rate of return. It also aims to be profitable from the first year of operations. The win - announced after the market closed on Friday - also sent the share price of Genting's parent Genting Berhad and Star Cruises soaring. Star Cruises rose 4.5 US cents to 23.5 US cents, its highest since April, with 27.6 million shares traded. Genting Berhad in Malaysia saw its shares close at a record high of RM32, on a volume of 10 million shares. Genting shares in Singapore were probably buoyed by the upbeat reports put out by analysts. DBS Vickers Securities put a target price of 62 cents on Genting - which is 20 per cent higher than yesterday's close. OCBC Investment Research had an even higher target price for Genting - of 71 cents. OCBC said: 'The Singapore IR win has made Genting a world player in the gaming industry that potentially rivals the Americans.'' Although the issue of new shares may dilute existing shares, OCBC is confident the dilution will be offset by other factors. Merrill Lynch's Mr Sean Monaghan, who had tipped Genting as the front runner, said the share price had been upgraded to 50 cents. Of Star Cruises, Goldman Sachs said the win 'may also calm concerns that casinos operated by rivals might hurt Star's Singapore-based cruise ships, which offer on-board gaming'. The investment bank said that the financing structure might depend on the share price. If the share price rises, Star Cruises can place out shares - because it can raise more money by issuing fewer shares. If the share price does not improve, it could then have a rights issue or sell some ships.

Hey, they didn't tell me they got Genting shares!!!!!! They got 50 lots at 0.35, WALAU LEI.. .... next time is my turn!!!!
