need to get worse before getting better? mr market can be playing trick again as i see other O& M stocks like smm are recovering. i dont want to second guess mr market next course of action. get better, get worse before getting better etc... let the market force work itself out and will come back again when the price stabilises.

Price weakness is normal since the chart is depicting that.   A premium OSV builder should not be trading at similar  valuations compared to peers. Strong balance sheet Perherps, the name of the company also gets some negative image since STX Group is facing some issues now  |

the stock had broke through $1.12 support quite easily at moderate volume of $5million today. A lot of 1-10 lotters in the selling which mean the retailers are leaving the counter. If retailers can bring down a counter like VARD, there is really weakness in this stock price. Will foresee the price dropping further. the next support is at $1.02. How and when this support will be reached, only Mr Market will know, if at all. i was talking to some investors after the AGM and their view is there will be further price weakness. There is no catalyst in the market to push O& M stocks up. their advice for long term investors is to look at the fundamental value of the stock. otherwise it is better for investor to take their money and put it somewhere else where it will work harder. of course there is also conspiracy theory that the funds are letting this stock sinks so they can pick it up cheap. the most outrageous conspiracy theory is Ficantieri is still harbouring the thought of taking Vard private and may buy as prices weaken to increase their stake... |

I have being reading and observing this company for some time. The stock price is now trading at low and i expect it to bottom out soon. Just my 2 cents worth opinion. Just vested at $1.125 for mid term investment (6 months to 1 years).

Agree. Many people are not clear about its business and what are the key drivers that will affect the company. Events affecting the onshore O& G business for instance, do not have direct impact on the offshore O& G business, which is where VARD is. Though on a macro level, expectations of low energy prices in the future, will affect all O& G counters, including VARD as oil majors may spend less on O& G exploration and production. That said, the company is still trading at a discount or on par with its Asian OSV builders, which shouldn't be case. The ships built by VARD are of higher specs & technology and can operate in harsh conditions in the North Seas. In comparison with the Asian OSV builders like Nam Cheong, this is a competitive edge as Asian OSV builders face increasing competition from the Chinese shipyards that used to build container/bulk ships but are now moving into the OSV space. In 2013, they have announced securing 4 vessels and CIMB is expecting a potential win of another 2-3 vessels within the next few weeks. And they have built up local content in Brazil which is crucial for winning contracts from Petrobras. So while historically, Norway has been the major revenue contributor, I think we can expect to see much greater contribution from the other regions, especially Brazil, with the opening of its 2nd shipyard. In the long run, I do see upside potential for this counter. Even if earnings stay the same, an increase in the P/E multiple that reflects its stronger technical expertise and balance sheet provides for an upside. With the takeover and AGM over, a clearer picture of the company's intentions should also improve the share price. For a start, I think the promotion of the person in charge of investor relations from SVP to EVP is a signal that they are serious about IR.

Obviously, you still don't get what I am trying to say. I am referring to you as a person and not the stock market. In any case, you and me included, let's stop flooding this page with our arguments. Thanks..

Well...this is old news. It was announced last night. The share price not moving at all. As I said before...Analysts are expecting at least 20 more contracts worth like this for this year. Can Vard do it? Or maybe analysts should adjust their expectations lower? Good Luck.  |

I think a lotta investors of Vard not very clear about Vard business. I was at the AGM, and some of the questions were really strange and completely not related. Vard is a Norwegian company (not Korean or Italian company at all). Almost a pure North Sea play. Its almost like Vard supposed to be listed in Norway or other European bourses rather than in Spore.  If investors think Vard is an international play like some of the names mentioned. I dont think so... and they should not be so..... I invest in this company because I think it is a Norwegian company based in Norway (the only country with super surplus in Europe like our Singapore), with most of its customers are in Norway (damned lucky country with so much oil). I dont think they should step outside their expertise and compete with smaller yards like Nam Cheong, small Brazillian yards, etc. They are building Porches, BMWs, Benzs, and not Nissans, Hyundais, etc. If you can get what I mean..... Now they are experiencing a slower market in Northsea (industry cycle - this is the Core of their profits), learning curve in Brazil (competing with Keppel Sembmar World Cup Olympics for human resources), Vietnam (too small to compete).   So...analysts have to downgrade their expectations because of the above, which I think they have not. Although the price seems to have moved south first......  Good Luck.

I read all books related to Jesse Livermore and William ONeil....and I also recommend to all. Student, your advice is appreciated. But maybe you should put it in a nicer way....as a lot of ppl here are not feeling good because of the price drop in STX OSV...recently. Sometimes we need pro and cons in case all of us getting too bullish / bearish. Good Luck.

No one really hates you, but probably just find you annoying and " in-your-face" . You have to realise not everyone shares your mentality or view of stocks and the stock market. The same goes for life, you cannot expect everyone to follow your school of thoughts and keep influencing everyone to do the same thing as you if not something bad will happen to them. We are all adults and we have our own thinkings and values/beliefs. You are probably still  living in your HK drama /movie fantasy as a great " sifu" or " hero" when you expect you can " teach" and influence everyone else to follow ur advice and then they become grateful to you. You want to earn appreciation and respect from people, go get it from real life and the real world.

Latest possible news which could impact on the counter was 2 wks back, where recall Woodside announced today that it had dumped plans for the controversial $45b project at James Price Point. Grp’s CEO note that decision to dump the plan for James Price Point was tough, saying the project was subject to cost pressures. Grp would not be drawn on the cost estimate of the James Price Point development but said Woodside had tried everything to significantly reduce the budget, including reducing the size of the proposed LNG trains, in an effort to enhance the economics. In the end the costs had not come down sufficiently for the Browse project to be viable. This leaves the future of what was going to be one of Australia's biggest-ever resources projects in limbo. We note that the canning of the massive LNG project in WA will have significant flow-on impact of support industry players. Affected co’s could well include Ausgroup, Civimec and possibly Ezion Seperately also note that SG O& M play's share price have been pretty muted in recent wks, e.g STX OSV, Swiber, Ezra, in-line with a CS report citing that recent weak Oil prices could weigh upon O& M activities in the region.
