A typhoon-strength storm brought travel chaos to Japan on Tuesday, as violent winds and rain killed one man and left tens of thousands of people stranded.
Gusts of up to 150 kilometres (93 miles) per hour have been recorded in western Japan, with coastal areas likely seeing even stronger winds, Japan's weather agency said.
The meteorological agency said, warned heavy rain could trigger landslides and flooding. its website said,  strong winds would move northwards into Wednesday, producing waves up to 10 metres (30 feet) high.

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/french-nuclear-reactor-shut-down-fires-1 France generates 75% of its electricity from nuclear power and the future of the industry has become an issue in campaigns for the presidential election to be held in April and May. France, the world's most nuclear-dependent country, operates 58 reactors and has been a leading international proponent of atomic energy. But the country's reliance on nuclear power has been called into question since the Fukushima disaster in Japan, which prompted Germany to announce plans to shut all of its reactors by the end of 2022. What can happen..This is  what we are not prepare for and always beyond human can control. The radiation experience  - Effects of Radiation on the Human Body, including hair, brain, thyroid, blood, heart, Gastrointestinal (GI) Tract , and Reproductive Tract. www.atomicarchive.com/Effects/ The Japan experience - Cases of excessive radiation in vegetables, tea, milk, animal farm, seafood and water have stoked anxiety despite always saving it is  save, assurances from public officials. The German experience - Nuclear power station causing cancer. An official study - German govt shows the risk of getting cancer is increasing for children growing up in the neighborhood of a nuclear power station. This is in particular true for leukemia, a special case of cancer. The closer to the nuclear power station, the higher the risk of leukemia and cancer. In Germany, child cancer patience are being recorded.  For investigate into the cases of children's cancer between the years 1980 and 2003. There were 1592 children of age less than five years who got the disease and 4735 healthy children involved in the study. The result showed -  A significantly higher risk to get cancer if the children lived within a circle of less than 5 km around a nuclear power plant. According to the normal statistical values, there should have been 48 cases of cancer and 17 cases of leukemia within the above mentioned circle of 5 km around the atomic power plants. Test others wise  indicated, 77 cases of cancer (60% more than expected) and 37 cases of leukemia (117% more than expected). A person directly involved in the study mentioned to Spiegel online, that there might be human at higher risk for leukemia even within a circle of 50 km around nuclear power plants. Reactor at the power plant in Penly on the English Channel near the port of Dieppe shut down automatically after two small fires broke out Thursday. |

Japanese experts predict 34-metre wave http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/japanese-experts-predict-34metre-wave-7606822.html The panel of experts modelled the worst-case scenario should a magnitude-9.0 earthquake strike in the Nankai Trough, which runs east of Japan's main island of Honshu to the southern island of Kyushu. A forecast in 2003 put the potential height of such a tsunami at less than 20 metres. Last year's magnitude-9.0 earthquake spawned a 14-metre wave that devastated much of Japan's north-east coast, killed 19,000 people and triggered meltdowns at a nuclear power plant. The revised projections are based on new research. |

http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews/Asia/Story/A1Story20120401-337052.html Reuters -- Sunday, Apr 01, 2012 TOKYO - Japan's defences against a major tsunami and the safety of its nuclear plants were thrown into further doubt after two official studies predicted much higher waves could hit and that Tokyo quake damage could be bigger than it was prepared for. The reports, carried in the media over the weekend, are likely to intensify the debate about whether to restart Japan's 54 nuclear reactors, all but one of which are shut amid public fears about nuclear safety sparked by the Fukushima disaster in March 2011. |

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit northeastern Japan on Tuesday, there were no reports of damages or casualties and a tsunami warning was not issued. The quake, shook buildings in the capital, Tokyo, struck off the northeast coast of the main island of Honshu at a depth of 20.5 miles (32 km), the USGS said.
Japanese broadcaster NHK and the U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no danger of a tsunami. Tokyo Electric Power Co said there were no abnormalities at its nuclear plant in Fukushima, which was severely damaged just over a year ago by a magnitude 9 quake, Japan's strongest on record, which triggered a big tsunami and caused the world's worst nuclear crisis in 25 years. Tuesday, high-speed bullet trains serving northern Japan were halted but resumed later after no damage was reported, NHK said. There has been a five-fold increase in earthquakes in the Tokyo metropolitan area since the year-ago disaster, the Tokyo University Earthquake Research Institute. |

Australia has been hit by its biggest earthquake in 15 years, seismologists said, rattling a remote part of the desert with local Aboriginals reporting strong shaking but no major damage. The 6.1-magnitude earthquake had its epicentre near Ernabella, in the middle of Australia, at a shallow depth of three kilometres (1.8 miles), Geoscience Australia said. Ernabella is an indigenous arts hub home to about 500 Aboriginal people, some 317 kilometres southwest of the popular Alice Springs. Seismologist David Jepsen said. It was Australia's biggest quake since a 6.3-magnitude one was recorded in West Australia in 1997.

Up to 80% of the caesium released by the Fukushima Daiichi power plant landed in the Pacific and made its way into other oceans around the world, scientists at the Meteorological Research Institute said. " The rest has fallen on land" in and around Fukushima, said Hiroshi Takahashi, a researcher at the institute in Ibaraki, northeast of Tokyo. teeth53 thot: keep ensuring it save...half truth stories..." reactors were sent into meltdown, resulting in the leaking of radiation into the air, oceans and food chain." Takahagi is about 80 kilometers from the plant. Kusama asked  TEPCO's to pay 9.84 million yen (S$165,746) for decontamination work conducted from June to Oct and  for d  purchase of radiation dosimeters. It's the city's 2nd such demand to TEPCO -- in June, it became one of the first municipalities to seek compensation from the utility, demanding 2.05 million yen. " I'll keep making demands until work to deal with the nuclear crisis ends. I mean until there are no more costs [for the work]," Kusama told TEPCO Managing Director Naomi Hirose, who is deputy head of a task force to support people affected by the nuclear crisis. " I'm telling you this while repressing [my anger] to one-tenth, one-hundredth of its true level," Kusama said. teeth53 thot: Keep ensuring it save...half truth stories..." reactors were sent into meltdown, resulting in the leaking of radiation into the air, oceans and food chain." http://www.atomicarchive.com/Effects/effects15.shtml Radiation Effects on Humans...Certain body parts are more specifically affected by exposure to different types of radiation sources. Several factors are involved in determining the potential health effects of exposure to radiation. These include:
The most important factor is the amount of the dose - the amount of energy actually deposited in your body. The more energy absorbed by cells, the greater the biological damage. Health physicists refer to the amount of energy absorbed by the body as the radiation dose. The absorbed dose, the amount of energy absorbed per gram of body tissue, is usually measured in units called rads. Another unit of radation is the rem, or roentgen equivalent in man. To convert rads to rems, the number of rads is multiplied by a number that reflects the potential for damage caused by a type of radiation. For beta, gamma and X-ray radiation, this number is generally one. For some neutrons, protons, or alpha particles, the number is twenty. Hair - Losing hair quicckly and in clumps occurs with radiation exposure at 20 rems or higher. Brain - Brain cells do not reproduce,  it won't be damaged directly unless  it exposure is 5,000 rems or greater. Like the heart, radiation kills nerve cells and small blood vessels, and can cause seizures and immediate death. Thyroid - Certain body parts are more specifically affected by exposure to different types of radiation sources. The thyroid gland is susceptible to radioactive iodine. In sufficient amounts, radioactive iodine can destroy all or part of the thyroid. By taking potassium iodide can reduce the effects of exposure. Blood System - When a person is exposed to about 100 rems, blood's lymphocyte cell count will be reduced, leaving the victim more susceptible to infectionc and often refered to as mild radiation sickness. Early symptoms of sickness mimic those of flu and may go unnoticed unless blood count is done. According to data from Hiroshima and Nagaski, show that symptoms may persist for up to 10 years and may also have an increased long-term risk for leukemia and lymphoma. For more information, visit Radiation Effects Research Foundation. Heart - Intense exposure to radioactive material at 1,000 to 5,000 rems would do immediate damage to small blood vessels and probably cause heart failure and death directly. Gastrointestinal Tract - Radiation damage to the intestinal tract lining will cause nausea, bloody vomiting and diarrhea. This is occurs when the victim's exposure is 200 rems or more. The radiation will begin to destroy the cells in the body that divide rapidly. These including blood, GI tract, reproductive and hair cells, and harms their DNA and RNA of surviving cells. Reproductive Tract - Because reproductive tract cells divide rapidly, these areas of the body can be damaged at rem levels as low as 200. Long-term, some radiation sickness victims will become sterile.
