You should say 'luckily we never sell ah!' Any congrat to all those with faith and hold on. Tomorrow we can finally reap  reward from the seed we  planted a few month ago. Hold tight tight.

NOL reports US$20 million third quarter profit
Group?s year-to-date Core EBIT improves 33% SINGAPORE, 30 October 2013 ? NOL Group today reported net profits of US$20 million for the third quarter of 2013, and year-to-date net profits of US$61 million. The Group posted year- to-date Core EBIT improvement of 33% or US$42 million, from a US$127 million deficit in the same period last year. Singapore-based NOL attributed the better showing so far this year to its continuing focus on operational efficiency and cost management. Its two operating companies ? APL and APL Logistics ? both delivered better 2013 year-to-date performances at the Core EBIT level compared to the same period in 2012. ?This is one of the weakest peak seasons we have seen in recent years, characterised by depressed freight rates and industry over-capacity,? said NOL Group CEO Ng Yat Chung. ?Nevertheless, our business units delivered encouraging results. We improved our operational performance significantly from last year. Our focus on operational efficiencies is putting us in good stead for the long term.? The Group?s Core EBIT in the third quarter of 2013 was US$22 million, compared to a Core EBIT of US$80 million in the same quarter a year ago. Its net earnings of US$20 million this quarter is down from the US$50 million recorded in 3Q 2012. |

something to note ship capacity increased by 60K TEU and no charters returned in 3Q. All new ships are all delivered and no more ship coming in  4Q with 124K TEU chartered expected to be returned in 4Q13 and 2014. Basically zero cost saving in this quarter but next quarter would start to see operating cost going down due to retired chartered. Long ass fleet renewal process.

Was just thinking results probably don't matter now. Important is future guidance. If CEO NYC can't give a clear forward estimate, might as well sell whatever I have and stay by the side. Pointless, with opportunity cost.

NOL was down as long as the Europe recession. Given the signs of Europe recovery, NOL may well hitting the bottom now with upside looking brighter. Buy for the future.

that why no trade till picture is clear. It is cost saving Vs freight rate, if cost saving overcome low  rate then it is sustainable profitability for nol then share would shot up very fast else remain stagnant. enjoy the tension but don hold hope too high stay safe and be safe.

Container market will be sluggish in short term, due to oversupply of ships of more than 10,000 TEU, combined with demand (that we all know).
Scraping of old container liners with slower speed (perhaps those of 15-20yrs ago) were being scrapped but it didn't help much. Really depends on container rates and demand. In fact, container rates are impt. No increase in rates, no point. Inc. in demand also no use. The whole container shipment companies need to increase their rates or casualties are bound to happen. There's only so much bleeding you can take. Also heard vol. for containers at top 3 Chinese ports drop compared to y-o-y. So there you go. I think the selling off don't lie. Went above $1.10 and are hovering at $1.06-$1.065 now.
