between 1996 to 2006, building materials prices soars sky high due to high oil price and demend from China and India, but tender prices for contraction projects did not follow. Why ???? Because contractors from China come to Singapore and make it a unlevel playing field. They can really go very low price to secure projects. no way, contractors can pass the cost to developers, so how to pass the cost to buyers ???? |

unfortunately the truth is that the contractors will be the only party affected. In Singapore, the construction industry is very different. The developers are the God, the contrators have to accept everythings, because contractors from China set bad examples for everybody to follow. You can read today TheNewpaper page 5 report. according to Mr Sujit Ghosh, the president of Ready-Mixed Concrete Association of Singapore, concrete suppliers in Singapore normally have enough sands in their premises to last only a few hours. according to the news report, many contractors could not get any supply on Friday. |

I think the main hit will be the buyers, not construction sector nor developer..... The construction sectors will just add on the extra cost to the developer and still earn that amount of profits. The developer will jet up the price to the buyer..... The buyer will still buy the higher price houses and willing to buy cos all the housing price are moving up. So no need to worry.... Indeed, very interesting article. So far, no clear solution for this problem. Government trying to comfort the market with general comment. I think the addition cost is inevitable. |

I have read a news report that the authority long ago failed to get the construction companies make a switch to new way of construction with steel already implemented by the west. The new way is faster n more efficient requiring less foreign workers and construction time but old way was more economic as low sand price could not justify any change yet. Today's bounce remains a question mark, many who SHORT are now caught. |
