It is not so much of a problem if an experienced trader occasionally makes a small mistake in trading. Thus, no matter what the situation, the experienced trader will still practise loss-cutting at some point. The real damage is done when normal investors treat their stocks as as valuable commodities. They will normally buy more and more as prices drop and drop further in a prolonged downtrend. And in addition, they will normally at the same time also sing praises of their stocks great fundamentals. They will continue doing so even when their stocks have already fallen to half-price... |

lol messy?? are you kidding me? compared to mine, your sembmar trade is much much better! :D you enter at 5.17 and 5.2( i think averaging up is ok :D) and sold for profit at 5.21.... although profits not alot, but you are correct to preserve your capital and also the next day after you sold, it drops! and 5.16 sounds like a good price to enter...

oic i think...ipunter expert is talking about me, the grocery shopper. ec, my s-marine trades turned out to be quite messy. Early this wk and Wed i entered at 5.17 and 5.2, thurs it hit 5.26 intraday high & saw it coming down by 5c (didn't like the movement) and sold at 5.21 to avoid seeing deficit on my cfd a/c and other half in my cash a/c to release funds/ limit for other opportunities. My initial entry points were probably not gd enough that's why market kept coming back to attack. I should say i've been patiently waiting for it since S51's decline from peak (5.48) from the 1st trading day of this year. Had sold my previous holdings on 31 Dec, back then i'd only needed to avg up. Today i entered again at 5.16, it finished alright today with good support...likely bbs didn't run road from it (as uncle bon puts it). Well...still it made a lower low today from thurs so i'm avg down in a way. If it goes to 5.10/11 on Mon, i will rethink again because that might mean something's wrong. But that must be because i'm overly nervous (aka ganjiong) to see a nearly 40c correction. Is that the norm, ec? krisluke? | ||||

The main reason most people do averaging down is that they treat stocks as valuable commodities, especially stocks they love. But in reality, stock prices are purely a result of human perception (expectation). Such perception in value can easily change overnight, upon say hearing mere utterances of some supposedly authoritative entity. Since the stock market is a place where irrational as well as rational thought and feelings interact, it is not a place to assign absolute values. In the stock market, prices can, and often do, 'go haywire'... |

hmmm if i'm not wrong, 1 of the dangers of averaging down is that the price might just keep going lower and your losses will just keep increasing.... another danger is that if one develops a habit of averaging down, one will not learn how to accept loss and will not sell to cut loss(he/she will only want to sell for profit/breakeven), this is dangerous because one will not learn how to preserve his/her capital..... ipunter expert, am i correct?

Normal players always average down. This is because they treat stocks as like apples and oranges in the supermarket. As prices go lower, they regard it as cheaper and thus better value... This is why many get the shock of their lives when they lose money in a big way. And as prices go even lower, they will be happier to buy even more, and more, since it is becoming cheaper and cheaper...

I was focusing at 5.13 but it still a risk with one eye on stxosv. keppel corspe miss the opportunity to load up in cpf. If I did, maybe alredi load it off for just for the top up of cpf OA interest rate only. hope next week major EQ annoucement date kick off, this S marine will resume back. waiting and eyeing too. 513 not kanna wait 503, if not 492/3 or even 486. historic resistance level turned support. |

WHY SOLD ??? I 'm VERY VERY bullish on this babe. YZJ in the making mann. I Bot 10 lots at 104/5 after teeth 53 call. My thot is maybe influence by spain news yesterday. It was just a wild guess to build self confidence. Credit suisse buy call yesterday, think can top up cheap cheap when sti lau sai this morning but did not happen. sight. properly another 10 lots. Credit suisse says dividend yield better than keppel corspe and sembcorp cheat. thinking to swop all my positions from S marine into stxosv. The chart was in now in wave 3 of elliott wave, so at wave 4 (corrective wave) fibs should correct less than 38.2% retracement (textbook, still learning). perhaps can still load then for wave 5. PUMP IT UP !!! LOAD UP BEFORE YOU'RE LEFT OUT !!!! STXOSV OH YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! TGT 153 in mid term. ALL BBs are positive on this new found babe. 2 new IPO for this month. interested can read the prospectus from sgx :)
