The best way to invest is still to base on earnings potential of a company. Which is why buying a stock after earnings announcement is the safest way to invest. Because you know you are investing in a profitable company, and you own a share or a piece of that profitable company that will potentially generate profits still for many years to come. Thats why I usually invest in blue chips only and not the penny stocks unless you are confident of the earnings potential of the penny stocks. Buy a stock base on fair value. Like the fair value calculation I did for Keppel Land. Then you are truly a investor, and not a speculator. If you read Warren Buffett books, you will know what I am talking about.

For stock players, I definitely think that being 'gian-gian' (enthusiastic urge) to make money can be justifiably classified as a passion... |

Hi Crystal, I can only say this. I take stock trading as a business. Is starting your own business easy? 90% of all start-ups fail, only 10% become successful businesses. Every business has skills that need to be mastered. Whether you open shop, start a small company, you need marketing skills, accounting skills, budgeting skills, networking skills with customers and suppliers and so forth. Nothing in life is easy. We do what we can to improve our chances of success in life. You go to university to get a degree, you take night classes for that MBA. We need passion and drive to succeed in anything. Be it your job or your running your own business. There are people who succeed and people who don't. In all kinds of businesses and in all kinds of sectors. It all depends on whether or not you have to determination and drive to be the best at what you do. In stock trading, we have warren buffett, or Peter Lim from Sg. And of course there are hundreds of thousands others who failed. It all goes down to passion for what you do. I will leave it at that.

It is simple to understand if one separates business investment from stock market play. They are two entirely different things, though related. Business investment involves a complex set of knowledge and practices such as an MBA program would provide. But stock market play is an entirely different kettle of fish. It is based purely on expectations and whims of the players...

To add to that, if making money in stocks is easy, there will be no more remisers, professional market analysts, paid stock coaches, or even businessmen and others. For all would simply retire and play stocks for a fortune...

Hahaha... One doesn't 'play along with the market'... The market usually 'plays' humans. The best thing humans can do is to place their bets...
