However, no dividend is declared. So I'm doubtful if "tomorrow will rocket high". I'm also vested in Mediaring, but I'm not too optimistic about tomorrow's pricings. |

Have to be patient with this counter. Went upto .46cents and now on the downward trend. (as Singaporegal said). Hope the results are as good as before to lift it up. vested at .38c. KBWee should come up with something for investors. |

Since the financial results of MR will be announced next Monday, I do forsee fund managers will sell down this counter, then everyone will also sell and run, fund managers will then accumulate and then Monday when MR is higer, they run again. |

Fund managers are playing this counter.. v risky. they push MR higher by 0.05, then when the rest goes in and it goes up further by 0.005, fund managers start to sell.. they trade in 1000lots. whereas others trading in smaller amounts are usually stucked with higher prices.. best is to avoid... |

A good chance to get PacNet Connect-ed By ROLAND LIM , Published February 21, 2007 WHY is regional telecommunications and Internet service provider Pacific Internet (PacNet) such a hot property? Again it is a potential takeover target - eyed by Connect Holdings - barely a year after MediaRing failed to do the job. PacNet must obviously be doing something right to attract so much interest from major shareholders who want to buy the entire company. First, it has been profitable for the past five years and annual revenue has been growing. And second, it is unique in being the only independent telco in the region. Being independent is probably an under-rated virtue in the telco space, but it's an advantage highlighted during the recent Taiwan earthquake that ruined submarine cables and interrupted connectivity in the region. PacNet was able to quickly re-route its Internet traffic - through the many carriers it buys bandwidth from - to those that still had connectivity. Other telcos, heavily reliant on a smaller range of submarine cable operators, could not react as quickly. And if PacNet's ambitious plan to triple its 2005 revenue by 2010 and improve profit margins is to be believed, its shareholders are onto a good thing. Yet ironically, it has been the actions of PacNet's various major shareholders in the past year or so that have hurt the company's pocket - at least indirectly, by consuming the time and effort of its management. PacNet had to take a charge of US$1.3 million in 2006 due to various fees associated with the failed MediaRing takeover bid. It then took more charges related to putting together an extraordinary general meeting called by its major shareholder Vantage. Not only did this EGM cost money, it also saw PacNet's independent directors booted out, and it has had to go and look for three new independent directors, who are expected to be appointed by Feb 28. But after the boardroom tussle initiated by Vantage, the latter announced its exit plan from PacNet by selling part of its stake to Connect and selling its remaining stake to Connect once Connect made a takeover bid for PacNet. Focus on growth Connect's expected takeover bid for PacNet could, perhaps, be just what the company needs to take it to the next level of growth, because what it needs now is a stable set of shareholders and directors who can focus on helping it grow, rather than fighting boardroom battles. In the rapidly changing telco space, PacNet will also need to be nimble and make quick decisions on acquisitions if it wants to stay in the game and make good on its five-year plan. So going private would certainly help that. Another good reason for going private is that PacNet will probably need more funds for such acquisitions, and Connect, which is owned by private equity firms, will have good access to these. Connect also owns Asia Netcom, a regional submarine cable operator - which means potential areas of synergy. Going private would also help PacNet reduce the costs associated with its Nasdaq listing and, perhaps, recoup some of the half-million dollars it spent to be compliant with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. If Connect does indeed make a US$10 a share offer for PacNet, including the 11.8 per cent stake which Vantage has promised to sell, Connect looks set to own some 41.6 per cent of the telco. When MediaRing offered US$9.50 a share, 29 per cent of PacNet shareholders accepted. And at US$10, there's no reason to expect that the number of shareholders who accept would be any lower. So it looks like Connect will be able to get its way with PacNet. And PacNet will finally be able to concentrate on growing its business without the distraction of boardroom squabbles. |
