Property and banking, what else? Just an extra 10%, I don't think the reaction will be too adverse.

Hi Crystal and Gaecia, whats up? The Dow is certainly up, crossing 12,000 for the first time since 2008. Hopefully the China property tax news won't affect the market too badly tomorrow.

In short-term trading, one makes or loses less than in long-term holding. Thus, for short-term players, the risks of big losses are less. This is because in a longer term eg. one year, a stock can rise substantially, and can also fall substantially. Thus the risks are bigger, especially considering the fact that longer term players also have in mind to hold big losses when they occur... Thus the risks taken by them are much higher than those of short term players...

China Boosts Second-Home Down Payment Minimum to 60%Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- China increased the minimum down payment for second-home purchases to 60 percent from 50 percent, seeking to further limit the risk of asset bubbles forming in the world’s fastest-growing major economy. “China will continue to effectively curb investment and speculative purchases of houses to consolidate and expand on previous measures,” the State Council said in a statement on its website today. The Cabinet also urged local governments to increase land supply to help control property prices. Premier Wen Jiabao said on Jan. 18 that the government will “resolutely” implement controls on the real-estate market in the first quarter, including curbing speculation and increasing supplies of affordable housing. Property prices rose for a 19th month in December, even after the government suspended mortgages for third-home purchases and restricted loans to developers. “The policy shows the government’s determination to crack down on property speculation and aim to prevent it from happening in inland cities,” Danny Bao, a Hong Kong-based property analyst for Daiwa Securities Capital Markets. The government last year raised down payments for second homes, suspended mortgages for third-home purchases and restricted loans to developers. Some cities, including Beijing, limited the number of homes local residents can buy. In October, the central bank increased interest rates for the first time in three years and raised borrowing costs again on Dec. 25. Property Tax Home prices in Shanghai jumped 26.1 percent in 2010 and those in Chongqing surged 29.4 percent, according to SouFun Holdings Ltd., the country’s biggest real estate website owner. Prices in 70 cities rose 6.4 percent in December from a year earlier, the smallest in 13 months. China is expected to introduce a 0.8 percent real estate levy, which will have a limited impact on the market, according to a Nomura Holdings Inc. Jan. 10 report. The tax will probably be introduced in Shanghai and Chongqing, and rolled out to other so-called overheated cities such as Beijing, Shenzhen and Hangzhou, Nomura analysts led by Alvin Wong said in the report. “Today’s statement didn’t mention much about a property tax, as the impact would be limited as it takes time for trials to be expanded nationwide,” Daiwa’s Bao said. “It makes sense instead for the government to limit buying and tighten rules on down payments.” Re-sale Charges The government also set interest rates for second-home mortgages at no less than 110 percent of benchmark rates, and said people selling homes within five years of purchase will be charged full transaction taxes, the council statement said today, citing a meeting chaired by Premier Wen. Land for affordable housing, reconstruction of shantytowns, and medium and small commercial houses should be no less than 70 percent of the regional government’s total supply, it said. Regional governments should also “strictly” formulate property purchase policies and local residents with two homes will be banned from further purchases, it said. Residents from outside the region with one home
already will not be permitted to make further purchases and won’t be
able to buy any homes if they fail to present proof of personal income
tax payments made in the area, it said.

'Gian-gian' is in Hokkien, which means to be greedily enthusiastic. People usually play stocks because they are 'gian-gian' to make money. But that is the wrong approach. The right approach is to be 'gian-gian' in protecting one's precious money from high risk actions...
