CSM closed up 3.33% last nite in Nasdaq ..... at price of USD 9.00. This translates to ration price of between 1.38 - 1.40 in SGX trading. Let's see if I'm right come Monday. |

Up 2.58% on NASDAQ now. Hmm.... considering it is a slow week for US, i think this performance is not too bad. Next resistance On STI, chartered has almost covered the gap (drop from 1.34/36 to 1.22) on 20/7/06. |

Semiconductor stocks were higher in mid-afternoon trading on laggard buying, given the firm outlook for demand for chips with the launch of new video game consoles and the upcoming roll-out of Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system, dealers said. "For the semiconductors, a lot of the negatives have already been priced in, so there could be a bit of laggard play," an analyst with a European brokerage said. He noted that the bullish sentiment in chip stocks could be due to the rating upgrade by Citigroup Investment Research's chief US equity strategist, Tobias Levkovich, for chip stocks to "overweight" from "neutral". "The outlook for DRAM should be quite good, with Microsoft Vista being the key driver," the analyst added. Concurring with that view, UOB KayHian analyst Jonathan Koh said in a note, "We expect positive sentiments for technology stocks in the US and Taiwan to have a spillover effect for technology stocks on the local bourse." Koh is keeping an "overweight" rating for the local semiconductor sector, citing that the launch of new video game consoles Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii across the US and the launch of Windows Vista will strengthen demand for DRAM. He noted that UTAC will benefit from increased DRAM content in Vista-compatible PCs, while Chartered's production of AMD microchips could be ramped up with the launch of Microsoft Vista and spillover demand for Microsoft's Xbox due to limited supply of PS3. Global Testing Corp could also benefit as it provides testing services for baseband processors used in the PS3 via Marvell Technology, he said. |
