It expects record earnings net of exceptional gains this year mainly on the strength of its orderbook and continuing brisk demand, a company official said. Given the bullish outlook for the shipyard industry, the company is also considering commencing the second phase of development of its Batam shipyard, an exercise that would cost it some $30-50m. "We're now starting to look into the next phase of development. Nothing is firm yet... (but) it is something that we are embarking on," executive director Jane Ng told XFN-Asia in a recent interview. She said a decision is expected to be made within the next two years. It reported a net profit of $31.2 mln sgd in the first half to June, boosted by a $16.1m exceptional gain. Excluding the one-off gain, its net profit in the half came in at $15.1m. The company is looking to beat its record-high earnings of $19.1m achieved in 2002. Ng hopes their orderbook, which stood at $470m as of end-August, will continue to expand but added that the company also exercises prudence when taking in new orders. The most recent addition to its portfolio was the $25m deal from Frontier Drilling (Asia) Pte Ltd. She said Pan-United continues to receive an increasing number of inquiries, indicating demand remains firm. "At the moment, we are benefiting from other yards being busy," she said. Ng said while there is no urgent need to expand capacity at this point, the company is looking at eventual expansion, which may even include venturing into rig-building. It operates an 11-hectare shipyard in Tuas here with a floating dock, three new building berths and a 140-meter finger pier. Its 28-hectare Batam shipyard in Tanjung Uncang has 1.3 km of repair berths, two floating docks, a 300-meter finger pier and four new building berths. The investment cost for the second development phase of the Batam shipyard will depend on the type of expansion the company will want to pursue, Ng said. The cost of the first phase was $60m. |

Yes, still a good stock to me although I won't say it is the best. Jaya seems to be more attractive to me. It was definitely very attractive to me when it was just under 40 cents though http://kelongstocks.blogspot.com |
