Every company listed in SGX can only pay out the final dividend if approved by shareholders in the AGM. If there is no such approval, there is no payment. Take a look at Singpost - In relation to financial year ended 31 March 2010, the Board of Directors has proposed a final dividend of 2.5 cents per ordinary share (tax exempt one-tier). The final dividend, if approved by shareholders of the Company at the Annual General Meeting (“AGM”), will be paid on 15 July 2010. Take a look at SMRT - The final dividend, if approved at the Eleventh Annual General Meeting, will be paid on 5 August 2010 to members on the Register as at 23 July 2010. So while these companies may choose to trade at CD, there is no guarantee that anyone buying the shares will ever get the dividend since if shareholders reject the resolution in the AGM, the stock will revert back to its original state (non-CD). So companies do have the right to only state the date and time payable when they release their AGM circular. The stock will then trade CD after the AGM approves it.

Sorr, still not clear. How come Singpost, SMRT, Suntec, CitySpring could trade CD within 1 day or 2 after div announcement. Did they already got shareholders' approval when they announce or that the CD displayed is in the "interim" , since Singpost and SMRT pays div much later after appearance of CD.

All companies need to have shareholder's approval in the AGM first before paying final dividends. This is a rule. It doesn't impact interim dividend though. Interim dividends can be declared by the Board without shareholder's approval. Even blue chips are bound by this rule. Noble announced the bonus shares and cash dividend payouts in Feb. Yet it could only trade CD after the AGM last month. |

I see. Guess I've been so used to seeing CD on some cos./ stocks shortly after results/ div announcement that I expected UtdEnvTech to have got approval when they announced it. Are they putting the cart before the horse? Am I right to say that some co. would have got their shareholders' approval when they make their div payout announcement ?

Shareholders must first approve the final dividend resolution first before they can pay it out....this applies to all listed company.

When is the dividend payment and ex-date? UtdEnvirotech declared 2010 dividend of 0.5 cts a while ago, but there hasn't been any of these important info of SGX site. Why? This kinda of tardiness doesn't inspire confidence! Very strange.

Let hope that UEV can secure more BOT/TOT project in the next 6-9 months. I see more potential in them after they have finally completed their BOT project in China some months back.

Actually UEV, order book is significantly smaller. The bulk of the orderbook consist of the 2 BOT plants they are constructing for themselves at the moment. It will not be recognized in the income statement.

CIMB-GK reiterates ‘buy’ call on UNITED ENVIROTECH Analyst: Gary Ng We reiterated BUY rating for United Envirotech with a with target price at S$0.56, reflecting FY11 earnings, set at 10x multiples, still below the mid-cycle valuation, and discount to bigger peers who re-rated upon awards of overseas contracts (e.g. Epure, Hyflux). • We like UENV for its projects visibility in the municipal sector, and its proven execution in overseas projects. UENV offers excellent value trading at 5.5x FY11 P/E against its 3-year core earnings CAGR forecast of 37%. • Bigger capital base to take on new order book and projects. Given UENV’s expertise in wastewater treatment for the difficult to penetrate petrochemical industries, the company has been gunning for lucrative industrial parks BOT projects. We expect most of the BOT projects that UENV targets to come with EPC contracts that will help shore up its order book of Rmb630m. This should enable the group to accelerate conclusion of new contracts. • Stable and recurring income. For its BOT/TOT projects, the concession periods usually start after trial operations and government approval. Over the 25-30-year lifespan of the concessions, UENV books recurring income based on treated volume and agreed tariffs with the government. It can also earn income from the further treatment of discharged water for sale as recycled water to nearby industrial consumers. • We believe that investors who want to participate in the water sector exposure would also benefit from investing in UENV, which pitches itself at a 20-30% discount to the bigger names industry peers. |

With the completion of this huge project, revenue from their EPC division will be a lot lower unless they can secure new projects. Waiting for more good news.
