I heard rumours that some people in Malaysia use pirated metastock software that can still connect to the Real Time data!!! |

No I don't use special software. I just search manually for the "basket". Takes me about half an hour to do so... I only "refresh" the basket every 3-4 months. |

Hi Singaporegal, May I know whether you are using any special software to help you in the filtering ? I heard that some people subscribe to "metastock" to help them in monitoring and analysis. |

My PA,"Buy good bussinesses when they are priced at a discount" Posted 29-Jun-2006 - Invested $280K. 40% Equites (paper loss 10%), 60% Trusts (paper profit 10%). Still holding onto several bluechips & co. with expected growth. |

Its hard to tell you how often I trade because the timing is not fixed. Sometimes, I sell within 1 week... sometimes I hold for 1 month plus depending on the signals I get from the TA charts. Hope this will give you some idea - During bull times, I'm invested in the market like 80-90% of the time. During bear times like the one now, I'm in the market like 0-20% of the time because I can't find good buy signals and have executed all my sales when all the sell signals come out. |

hi singaporegal, i think you have a good system to filter out your potential counters but may i ask if you get to trade often or have to wait a fair bit most of the time? |

Hi IreneL, Because I'm a very short term trader (2-4 weeks), a "good" stock today may not be a "good" stock to me in 2 weeks time. I think what you're asking is how to "filter" the market to find potential stocks. This is how I do it - (1) I only track stocks that are > $1.5 and less than $4 (2) I only track stocks that have a consistent trading volume of > 1 million everyday If you apply (1) and (2), you'll find that there are only a basket of about 30-40 stocks that meet this criteria. Then in your MyCorner, you just monitor these stocks consistently. The AD or Accumulation/Distribution can be found from ShareJunction's historical chart. Click on the Chart link to bring it up. |

Hi singaporegal Need to ask your advice again. Going to ShareJunction's My Corner, MyStock's Technicals for RSI and Williams % R goes on the assumption that there are stocks in my portfolio. As I do not currently have any stocks but am planning to buy, ie.Luzhou or Singapore Post, how do I assure myself that these are good stocks. You mentioned using AD as one of the buy signals and have previously provided formulaes in another thread. Where do I get the AD from? Many thanks |

Hi HenryAng570, Using SMRT as example now, what I do is firstly look at its Accumulation/Distribution (AD) and RSI line. If I see it uptrending, it usually means that the stock price will probably continue uptrending as well. The best buy signal is therefore when AD and RSI uptrending with Williams%R and RSI indicator as oversold. For sell signal, I will usually start to be alert when the AD or RSI line start to look like its going to downtrend. When the price drop below like 2-3% of its last peak, I will then execute the sell. |

Irene hi, Am learning how to read charts. Would appreciate if you could illusrate let say using SMRT, how do you determine if rite now @ 1.16 .... is it a buy signal or sell signal? Based on William %, reading below 90% is buy signal etc ...... I can't see it from the chart ...... Thanks for your tutorial. |

Hi IreneL,When is a stock "Overbought" and "Oversold"?In a gist, the formulaes take the past 14 days prices and compare with the latest price. An oversold stock would mean that the price is relatively low compared to its 14 day record. Vice versa for overbought. How are they determined?A stock is determined as oversold or overbought depending on which indicator you're talking about. You can either use RSI or Williams %R (do an internet search on these terms if you want to find out the mathematical formula) Where do I look for these information? |

lowalice: Just like you, after many, many (25) years of trading the "gasak-buta" way, I'm just beginning to learn TA after joining Share Junction. Along the way, I also picked up a lot of good pointers from all the gurus here. I'm more fortunate as I have been consistantly making some money in local stocks. I did lost quite a sum (250k) during the clob saga. You can learn more on TA and charts by clicking on the Research menu of this Share Junction site and click on the sub menu on -learn how to use ShareJunction's Charts - Download -Quick reference guide on interpreting charts - Download. You can print the charts and study them. Better still, get someone who is familiar and IS MAKING MONEY using these charts to teach you the ropes. Be careful, it is not so straightforward, otherwise, everybody will not want to work and start trading stocks. |
