I hope to create more awareness regarding this investment and to let people know of this alternative instead of just buying fixed deposits or even structured products offered by banks. STI ETF is a good investment for those who wish to take a passive management of their investment. Blogging at moneytalk.sg on the stock market, ETF and anything to do with money. |

This is a no brainer...overtime the STI will rise, and the risk is "diversified"..you are buying virtually all the blues..with just one counter!!! This is good for those who are young and time is on their side...they got alot more bull cycle to ride on..to their benefit. This buying of sti etf..is certainly worth considering...thank for shairng..moneytalk.

This is one of the reason why I am writing a series of posts on the STI ETF. It is a good investment for those who do wish to participate actively in their portfolio i.e. learning trading or picking up financial analysis skills. I think more should be done to promote index funds in general due to their low expenses. Well, like what you said, this is one product which financial insituitions will not promote simply because it will hurt their bottomline. ETF are definely better than unit trust.. Banks and most final institution will not promote it, cause no fat profit for them. So they are not stupid to promote ETF product, cause it will hurt their future earning if it becomes too popular. Low commission and Low management fees product banks will not sell, not worth their time. (Do u noe how much is needed to keep a personal investor banker, if sell ETF bank will have to go on diet program. Hee Hee If you buy unit trust that is purely on Singapore Stock, this is a better option |

ETF tracks the STI, meaning it's quite diversified. It is definitely safer than individual stocks. Looks to me like it's similar to unit trusts, however this also means that the returns are much lower than individuals stocks and the horizon is longer. You won't see huge volatility in ETFs. The decision to buy ETFs really depends on risk appetite and the horizon one is looking at..

streetTRACKS STI, Singapore’s first locally created exchange traded fund, is designed to track the performance of the Straits Times Index (STI). Shares of streetTRACKS STI were listed and traded on SGX-ST since 17 April 2002. The Fund's investment objective is to replicate as closely as possible, before expenses, the performance of the Straits Times Index. There can be no assurance that the Fund will achieve its investment objective. The Fund will seek to achieve this objective by investing all, or substantially all, of its assets in Index Shares in substantially the same weightings as reflected in the Straits Times Index. Within the limits set out in the CPF Investment Guidelines, the Fund may invest in futures and derivatives instruments traded on Recognised Stock Exchanges and OTC Markets provided that such instruments are Authorised Investments. The Manager employs an "indexing" approach intended to replicate as closely as possible the performance, before expenses, of the Straits Times Index. The Straits Times Index is a widely quoted indicator of the performance of the Singapore stock market. It currently comprises 50 common stocks which are selected by Singapore Press Holdings Ltd based upon certain market capitalisation and liquidity characteristics |

Personally, ETF is not a trading stock to begin with. Hold and rot with it. Try to convince yourself to be contented with the div yield of 4%. Do find out about the components of ETF it's just my view. it's ur decision. =)

So, any opinion can be provide about the ETF or STI in six month time? thanks

I observe that the selling price of this share is always higher than the actual STI index. Can i say that, In a fair deal, the Price for this share should be equal with the STI index?
