Asia's first business trust backed by aircraft assets has lodged its preliminary prospectus with the MAS. Backed by sponsor GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS), AALT will start with 12 commercial passenger jets and two freighters. The preliminary prospectus does not state the value of the aircraft but says AALT's spare debt capacity of US$179m after it acquires the first 14 planes will be sufficient to buy five similar aircraft. AALT has a US$360m debt facility it will partly draw for the initial assets. Another GE affiliate will retain 12% of the trust's 788m units. The remaining 88% will be offered to the public. The prospectus says strong economic growth, rising incomes, liberalised skies and international trade are driving air passenger and cargo traffic. The issue is jointly underwritten and managed by DBS Bank and Goldman Sachs.
