dragon - i think market depth is worthwhile if you are an active trader. If you are a Poems user and have been trading for a while, chances are you have rewards points that can be used to suscribe to the market depth feature for free. Manikamaniko & stock_newbie: ghlau935's suggestion is worth trying too. Some of my friends are using the i-mode thinghy for trading too. Apart from trading, I use my Dopod as a PDA / BlackBerry / dictonionary / Word & Excel processing too. If your interest is solely for trading, better to avoid unneccessary expenditure. |

Hi tanglinboy & stock_newbie, actually any mobile device that can earn money is a good piece of equipment. :) ... I've evaluated various models from O2, Dopod, and Nokia before settling for a Dopod 810. Btw, i forgot to mention that the URL for mobile Poems and the Poems software is different. This is because mobile devices can't support Java apps/functions yet. Check out the demo on the Poems homepage. You can get there by clicking on "Open an Account". Happy trading! |

Thanks skyne7 & Synapse for responding to my queries. Maybe will call up my broker on Monday then... Another question I have is: Which piece of mobile equipment (looking for those small ones, not laptops...) is good for mobile trading? Currently I've a rather old HP iPAQ h6365 (the one with something like a 'highlighter pen's cap' protuding out one..) that's able to surf Wi-Fi, but I find that I cannot log in to normal Online POEMS trading portal on it (as sometimes, certain buttons does not contains the link or cannot work on it...), so dunoe if Mobile trading will work on it also... Comments & suggestions are greatly welcome!!! |

Hi S'poregal and Manikamaniko, Poems mobile isn't much to crow about. It works just like the "static" Poems stock price page. Must click on update/refresh to see changes. Basic intraday and daily charts (up to 90 days) are avail, but they are only 2-D illustration of price changes over time. Doesn't have impt info like vol nor any other important indicators. I believe this is because the current generation of handheld devices and wireless technologies are still limited by transmission, bandwidth, costs etc. The handheld device option (like PDAs and smartphones) would be sufficient to place orders, stock-take, and serve as a "security blanket". What i found useful was M1's wireless b-band. It is based on a SIM card which can be attached to a PMCIA card and inserted into laptops. With this, traders can run more advanced applets/functions compared to 3G devices to access charts and technical indicators that they normally use at home. The laptop option would be ideal for those who use laptops when working offsite or full-time traders who need mobility but rather clumsy for window shopping! |

Stock_Newbie, I suppose you are keen on adopting a trading stance and not long-term investment? That being the case you are likely to check prices often say maybe every 30 mins or so? I don't suggest GPRS as it would be very expensive since charges are applied on a usage basis. First, you need a 3G device to run Poems mobile. This device would enable you to ride on free WiFi subject to limitations as highlighted by skyne7. The downside of using a PDA like device is that sophisticated tools/apps normally available in laptops cannot be used. Secondly, if you need access to the net at non-hotspot areas, you may wish to try M1's Wireless Broadband service. There are 3 packages with different download speeds. All provide for a max of 5Gbs worth of data each month from ~$25 per month without the need for a contract. The SIM card / modem passed to you can be used with your device or paired with laptop for net access in non-hotspots. Lastly ... I'm not vested with M1. |

How about recommendation for 'Mobile Trading' platform? If had lost the PIN for POEMS Mobile Login, possible to retrieve it via email or other means? Btw, POEMS's MOBILE Trading can either connect via GPRS or via Wi-Fi (Free Wireless@SG) rite? Thanks! |

asdfjunky, apologies mate. I've only used Poems before and never touched other trading platforms. Must say i was impressed with SI v5's trading-friendly features. But it far-exceeds my requirement. |

cjjerry, thanks for the URL. Some of my friends use SI v5. A lot of funky functions but i don't have time at work to scrutinise. As i'm only a small timer the basic Poems is enough. My fav page is LP2, along with the Trade Distrb and Vol Distrb charts. If have sufficient reward points, can sign up for mkt depth analysis too. |
