Good post mpeg444 - what is the source of your report? Anybody knows what else specific is happening for this counter. Man! it is on fire right now and has gone up to 1.32 already this morning. Suspect there should be something going on beyond just the training ctr in Dalian. So anyone with news/info pls share with posting. |

THE building boom on Jurong Island , Singapore 's oil refining and petrochemical hub, is at fever pitch. This, in turn, is creating a 'high' - pushing up the stock prices of listed engineering and construction-related companies here. The construction of new petrochemical complexes, refinery upgrading projects and oil storage tankfarms is creating opportunities for medium and smaller companies. These range from contractors like Rotary Engineering and oil equipment supplier SSH Corp, to engineering groups like OKP and AusGroup and even crane operators like Tiong Woon whose giant cranes are indispensable for lifting the tall petrochemical towers. In the process, many are also tying up with bigger joint venture partners - not just local but also foreign ones - to enable them to better bid for the upcoming orders. One of the biggest beneficiaries of the Jurong Island boom has been mainboard-listed Rotary Engineering, an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, whose biggest deal to date is its recent S$535 million EPC contract to build Hin Leong Trading's Universal Terminal. After that, it also clinched two other contracts, totalling S$40 million, from Shell and Oiltanking. The $23 million Shell deal involves electrical works at the oil giant's new petrochemical plant, while the $17 million Oiltanking deal will see it building biodiesel storage tanks.Rotary's good fortune has also been shared with smaller contractors like Sesdaq-listed OKP Holdings, whose initial dealing with Rotary saw it doing sub-contract work on the latter's Universal Terminal project. Encouraging start But given the island's building boom, OKP and Rotary decided in February to set up OKP (Oil and Gas), a 55:45 JV specifically targeting oil and gas projects. This has since paid off with the JV securing its first S$3 million contract in April to do civil and piling works for an isotherm power plant on Jurong Island . OKP's managing director Or Tor Wat said at that time: 'It is a small, but encouraging start,' adding that as the JV builds up its track record, it hopes to make its mark as a reliable industry contractor. The JVs being formed here could also help catapult the Singapore partners into being global players, like what AusGroup seems to be looking to do with its European partner. As Ausgroup's Mr Kenny said: 'There is a possibility that both parties may want to explore cooperating on other work in future should this arrangement prove successful.' Mainboard-listed crane specialist Tiong Woon is doing just that by moving into fabrication of oil and gas equipment and operating a S$20 million base in Jubail , Saudi Arabia to cater to petrochemical and gas projects in the Gulf. In that respect, Jurong Island is proving to be a good, training ground and take-off point for Singapore engineering companies eyeing markets overseas. SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--ExxonMobil Chemicals has started recruiting engineers and technicians ahead of its decision whether to build a second major petrochemical complex on Singapore''s Jurong island, the Business Times reported Tuesday. ExxonMobil Chemicals, a unit of the world''s largest listed oil company, Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM), is likely to make a final decision next month on whether to build a second ethylene complex at a cost of US$4 billion, but the recruitment suggests it has already decided to do so, the report said. Construction could begin in the middle of 2008. |
