And to add to that will u put your life in the hands of a doctor who keeps asking for more pay? Why have double standards? What makes a pilot so special that he needs to be paid SO much? True theres sacrifices but theres a limit to it..When greed takes over the mind theres no end to it.. I totally understand why the management refuse to bend in to the demands which i should think they perceive as unreasonable too.. I seriously hope our ministers will step in and put an end to this. Its ridiculous. And i hope the judges will act reasonably too. |

guys..forgive me..but let me say this tongue in cheek.. I think its not fair to ask too high a salary.. Think about this.. how bout our nsf and regulars who may spend more than 3/4 their time away from home..yet earn pathetic pay esp nsf? And to add to that must take IPPT la, Range la, SOC la and to add strenuous training smtimes weeks in jungle eating sucky rations plus in uncomfortable environment plus cannot even piss and shit properly.. Think about it.. How about our Doctors and nurses in the health sector? They work irregular hours, are most of the time unsung heroes(esp nurses and my gf is one so i noe), have to endure the hazard of getting infectious diseases, also undergo tests once in awhile, have to keep upgrading to continue license and bear the brunt of demanding patients. And learn new technologies and techniques everyday due to advancing equipments and risk being sued due to job scope. Do we hear them clamouring for more pay? Or engaging lawyers to help them? And trust me their salaries are pathetic(in the government sector la at least) and compared to private sucks. Dont even compare with our highly paid pilots. Yet they just do their job quietly and patiently. During SARS their jobs were LIFE THREATENING but did they threaten to quit if their salaries were not UPPED? And they dont even get to travel!!! In my own honest opinion, its not about the pay. Its about the dedication and the character behind the people. And in telling times their true colours wil surface. My kudos to those who dedicate their life and passion selflessly and without any mercenary thoughts. For those who are always asking for more this will never end. Greed knows no boundaries and thats why its in one of the deadly sins. Just think about it guys.. Our pilots are paid a handsome sum and lets face it..their one month pay is equivalent to 15 nurses or maybe 5 junior doctors. Are they really worth even more than that? I let you all think anout it and let your heart and brain decide. |

Hi, I have friends who are SIA pilots, so let me give you an insight into their lives... If we jsut talk purely on their jobs alone, accumulatively half a month they will not be at home, every six months they will have a proficiency check in the simulator and once a year they will have a actual flight check also not forgetting the annual stringent medical check up. Bus, Mrt drivers dun need the above else might as well employ them or may i suggest we employ garuda pilots!!! cheaper but dare you ...???? They cross numerous time zones, minimun stay then its back home, try to do that for a month and you will be fatigued!!! Well behind those glamour and percive high pay is scrafice in terms of health and family time which if you ask me sholud be duly compensated.. |

I think MM Lee may step in soon. He doesn't like anybody disturbing Changi Airport or SIA. |

Personally I cannot understand why pilots should be paid with that kind of exobitent salary? And was even more perplexed with the argument that flying bigger airplanes should entitle them with bigger payout. Aren't they just the same as any drivers of other transport mode? So MRT driver should request for more pay than bus driver, whom should also ask for more than taxi driver? **Confused** Quoted from the papers: Currently, the lowest starting point for a Captain flying the B744 is between S$9,550 and $10,000 while for First Officers, it is between S$5,375 and S$5,600. As for Captains flying the B777 and A345, they will get between S$9,300 and S$15,300, while First Officers can earn between S$5,150 and S$8,500. PS: No offence to any pilot friends! |
