hey zhirong_thann, tiandi made the suggestions i was going to make: yea, do look up that article by singaporegal on TA. aside, it's just constant practice all the way--i keep records of all the stocks in my basket, even when i do not buy them. like, once a week, i'll do TA on all of them, then check back the week after to see if i'm accurate. this way, can learn from own mistakes and slowly become better. it's a gradual process tho, so don't expect to become an expert overnight. aside, if you'd like, join us in the fellowship thread (since we're actually getting off topic on OSIM), i've recently posted on BB (big boys) and how they move in the market; perhaps the posts there might be of use to you as well. and yea, taking a loss is always difficult. but we're with you here. :) just remember tho: all decisions always have to be your own. And once you sell, never look back. Rem that for every stock you ran 'wrongly' from, there'll be another you run right from. Focus on overall portfolio, not just one stock. Good luck, and see ya in the fellowship thread! :) |

Hi zhirong_thann, One thing I must say... no matter how much you know about TA or FA or how many years of experience you have in investing/trading, you WILL STILL lose money once in a while. The most important thing is to learn how to cut loss. Its the easiest thing to say but very very difficult to stomach. |

hi zhirong_thann, I happened to read your questions and some reply from elfin and others. As you are asking many questions , I sugguest you do the followings: 1. Goto click Research ( orange back ground on this website) 2. Find at the bottom this article by Singaporegal, read this carefully, also inside she recommend a book Long Term Secrets to Short Term Trading by Larry Williams, this might help Confessions of a TA purist (November 2006) - ShareJunction's very popular forummer and TA expert, singaporegal, shares her thoughts and secrets in applying TA 3. Also on Research page, you can find under TA a very nice website Investopedia. goto this wensite, read the meaning of Technical Analysis and focus on a few topics that are supported by SJ. 4. You can also find out yourself the reading of the Williams, RSI, etc right from this SJ website, just go the type the counter name to top against the "Enter Stock" , for this you type OSIM , you then will see memu with selection of price, finanical, technical, history on top right hand side, so click the technical, the display will showed you the readings of RSI, Williams, try yourself, they read like below. Good Luck

Thanks for your time, elfinchilde. Think I only know the FA method at the moment and still learning. Any books or websites to read up on TA as well as improve on my FA? The loss is a bit hard to stomach for new comers with limited resources but I need to do something. The price of inaction is greater than the price of wrong choices. |

hi zhirong_thann, TA = technical analysis. ie, by reading charts and indicators, we try to predict what a stock does. it's what forumers like singaporegal, ipunter and myself 'specialise' in. FA= fundamental/financial analysis. ie, by reading company reports, PE ratios, NTA values etcetc, where they attempt to give the price value of a stock based on its company value. Forumers like shplayer, victorian, zhuge_liang specialise in this. No one method is superior, really. And you can always use both together. It's just a question of personal style to me. You'll trade via the method that best suits your personality (and of course, brings in best profits hehe). longcheer is a listed stock. they've recently undergone same shakes as osim. Market darling, suddenly a steep free fall, thereafter languishing in the penny area. poor stocks. meh. i like osim. meh. as for cutting out or not, i really can't advise, since your trading personality might be different from mine. Plus, we might not always be right on the stock, either. You need to decide for yourself what loss you can stomach, and what you can live with. If it's me, trading a TA stock, when it drops to abt 8% from my buy price and the techs show change, i'd cut and sell already. If you're not sure, could perhaps consider the half-half method (ie, cut half, keep half). there's another alternative, which is to buy in more when osim drops further. it's very risky tho, since the stock might not go up for a long, long time. be forewarned tho that once XD, osim is likely to drop even further. So decide well yea. essentially it's what you can live with. sole advice i will give: once you decide, do it, don't look back and regret. because we make our decisions on the here and now; hindsight is always perfect. the market's always around. One loss/gain is just that, one battle. THe aim is overall portfolio gain. So yea, calculate for yourself, and decide. good luck! :) |

lausk22, The GSS is a 'micro' issue. The big picture problem with OSIM is Brookstone and the copies in China. You need to look at the bigger picture and not pin your hopes on a relatively 'micro' (and short term) issue like the GSS. Just my personnal opinion...... |

hey zhirong_thann, i can't load the charts on my comp for some reason, so can't give the williams and RSI readings. last time i checked on friday tho, they're def oversold. pls note though that overbought/oversold are just indications of interest/not in the stock. just because a stock is overbought does not mean it has no potential to rise further. vice versa. osim has been sold down since before its results though. if you follow its charts (i'm doing this from memory, so pls verify), it's been sold down since at least 2 weeks before the release of results already. Probably, BBs sold then. so the remainder selling now is from small players and perhaps some laggard private hedge funds. you can check osim with longcheer. these stocks are undergoing parallel movements. advise caution on this counter tho. FA or TA-wise, it does not look good. |

Hmm wondering where has all the BB go? All missing in action. Can anyone tell me the stats on RSI and william? What does it mean when a stock is overbought or oversold? What is the reason and impact? Thanks |

raising money for expansion is a good thing. Raising money from IPO to clear debt is bad. :p

Not to worry all, Brookstone is rumored to be raising 120 million USD to go public on the US market next year. Osim will be washing its hands of the company if all goes well.

Right, put the money into some other fundamentally sound counters and wait for some reversal pattern from this fallen iGallop to develop. Always plan the trade and trade the plan. Don't jump in without a trading plan. |
