After the S'pore & Thailand political saga over Thaksin ..... Now a soccer final! Should have gotten Singtel or Temasek to sponsor the Lion's jerseys just for this final! Heehee! ---------------
SINGAPORE: There's a possibility that Singapore can win the ASEAN Football Championship, according to the Thai Team Manager, ahead of the first leg final match between the two teams at the National Stadium on Wednesday. That is because Singapore is a stronger team compared to the Thais, he said. The Thais arrived Monday night and were in training at the National Stadium on Tuesday. They will be without their veteran player Kiatisuk Senamuang who is injured. "A draw will be very happy result for us to go home and play but a loss will be very serious. If we lose to Singapore in Singapore, I think to make it up in Bangkok would be very difficult. Despite the crowd support because tactically if we could not score against you here, I don't see any chance we can score against you in Thailand, if we are going to win I believe it should be here. If we draw or we lose, lose will be almost certain that you are going to win the Cup," said Thavatchai Sajakul, Team Manager, Thailand. The Lions have the services of their influential skipper Aide Iskandar, back from a one match suspension, and their coach is not letting his opponents' reputation affect the team. "They are good team but still we are champions of South East Asia and they must do their best to try to take this title from us," said Raddy Avramovich, Head Coach, Singapore Team. The Lions will play to a full house at the National Stadium, but the Thais too will have support in the stands come Wednesday, mainly from the workers based here. The Thais have won the Cup 3 times while the Lions twice, so will the scale tip in Singapore's favour or are the Thais using the underdog tactic to throw their opponents off?. The answers will be revealed on Wednesday night at the Kallang battleground. Channel 5 will be showing both legs of the ASEAN Football Championship Final between Singapore and Thailand LIVE. The first leg is in Singapore on Wednesday and the return match in Bangkok on Sunday. LIVE telecast starts at 7.50pm. - CNA ---------------- |
