Yes.  The Taiwanese are very daring to go.  I heard that they came here green but they are willing to get  consultants to help in advice, setups, human resources, properties etc and I think this gives them the edge. I can see long queues of customers everyday passing their stores, esp Koi's. I also see many newcomers nowadays doing the business.  Some may succeed, some may fail, but there is a very large market here and worldwide.

I heard that KOI and Gong Cha are both owned by different entrepreneurs from Taiwan.   They are very enterprising.   Although both are private companies in Singapore, in the Taiwan side, they own hundreds of branches all over the world.   SUNMOON on the other hand is a listed company, but have no creative ability despite its resources. Think directors are sleeping and enjoying their fat paypackets or seeking pleasures of different kinds from business.  What a waste?

Ho, it is Gong Cha, not Kong Cha.  Gong Cha has started the business later than Sunmoon's drink chains if I am not wrong.  Gong Cha is now scattered all over Singapore.  I believe they have created a franchise fruits/teas/drinks business.  " Bubble tea" is probably a misnomer. Koi, another drink chain, is also doing very well in Singapore and international markets such as China where I saw their stalls sprouting in a few cities.  Someone say SUNMOON lacks vision, and I think rightly said so.  They could have done better. |

SUNMOON was the first to enter retail business selling fruit juices and vegetables, Tanglin was set uup as  the first shop, then Change Alley, then several others.  They were the first even before the bubble tea companies (smaller unlisted firms) set up retail chains, selling drinks. Bubble teas retailers like Kong Cha and Koi though entering the market later are making headways and raking in 20 to 50 million dollars in yearly revenues. Koi has a bigger market and its drinks are much liked. Obviously SUNMOON people are poor business entreprenuers, or they are quite dull and not forward looking otherwise they would be smiling all the way to the bank already.

Nah, not true about your food business low profit.. My friend (or rather associate) in the " food" business is getting richer by the day. Multi-millionaire now. SunMoon is in retail as well as wholesale of dried foodstuffs, fresh fruits and garlics, onions, apples, etc. They are also selling fresh fruit juices in their retail shops, at Change Alley, Tanglin and a few others. Don't have to wait too long for this counter if the management really wants to play the game well. Lol.

Food distribution has a very low profit and hence very low EPS (earning per share), wait long long for this counter to rise unless manipulated by BBs or the company vests into a more profitable line.

It has gone through roughs and tumbles in the past 10 over years, really hard like you say. From recent reports, I can guess they will have a brighter future ahead if the management work hard on it. Like a coconut tree, it survives storms and waves.  I like coconut meats and its water.. | ||||

Coconut is hard and cheap.  Sunmoon is hard to play although it is so cheap. Hehehe.

Agreed, on the EPS thing.  But so long as they are able to come out from the dirt their " predecessors" plunged into, then there will still be high hopes for shareholders who believed in the management. Don't let them down, Sunmoon people.. Lol...  | ||||

Like Sheng Siong... the EPS (earnings per share) for their business is low.  Thus expect share price development to be slow too.

I don't doubt that the company is now poised to maintain profitability for many years to come.  The only doubt is the management's willingness to steer the company clear and to seize business opportunities in Singapore, Asia, US and around the world.   Currently the business is charting well, and if it dares to boost its business by entering new areas for profitability, then Sunmoon should go back to 2 to 5 cents in a year or two. |
