So many contracts already announced but price down instead. Another contract will not make any difference. Looks like the shortists are preventing it from going up!

VARD has been through the same cost overrun situation before IPO and its earnings  recover nicely back in 2011 to  hit $0.3 EPS. It should recover in due time  with the strong order books.   If you believe it  is undervalue  given its  good fundamental but hit by bad temporary situation. As long as you believe you get in at a good price, don't have to worry about not getting it at the lowest price, no one can really do that prediction anyway.  If your judgement is right, the fundamental will eventually drive sentiments and you will not mind whether you get in at the lowest price point when the price finally moves up.

To be honest, the previous owner STX did not inject cash into Vard too. But, because of Vard solid management team, it was quarter after quarter of rising profits.
I continue to believe in the current management. With regards to the selling of Vard to pare down debts of fincantieri, it seems highly unlikely at the moment. I mean, it seems the government is in need of more money than fincantieri. Besides, they just purchased their stakes at the start of the year. Reason being for the acquisition of Vard is to build on their presence in the OSV segment. Thus, I really can't think of any reason why fincantieri should sell Vard. Moreover, they should instead sell perhaps some of its shipbuilding subsidiaries which have yet to turnaround instead of Vard, which will likely see earnings bolstered by massive order books in the coming quarters. I remain positive on Vard. If ever fincantieri is going to sell Vard, I'm sure there would be interested buyers- they would most likely be big players in the market. (Previously, Keppel and sembmarine will both tipped to bid for Vard before fincantieri got its stake). I believe taking a long term view on Vard is fair.

I am not vested in Vard. I am giving my personal opinions only and could be wrong. Fincantieri is heavily in debt and that is affecting Vard. If I am a investor, I won't put $ into vard knowing very well that there won't be extra funding from parent. The ship building industry is generated suppressed now and Vard last few quarters earnings are not great. Hence the share price will stay low for a while or even go lower when Fed tapers QE. However, buying below 70cts is quite safe for long term investment.  |

If they want to sell Vard shares, certainly they would not want to sell below 1.22. They just bought Vard a year ago and Vard has so many orders on hands. The stock price of Vard also certainly affects the pricing of Fincantieri.  If I were them, I would push the stock price of Vard to high high.  The selling process from Italy takes a long time, several months at least, they have time to do so.  On the other hand, If I were æ??å??è¯? who bought lots of stakes in UK, I would like to consider buying Fincantieri, lol, what great assets! I bet many China billionaires would have interest too. Buy low and sell high!   |

Correct me if I'm wrong.
Fincantieri will be 40 percent privatized by the Italian government, which is heavily in debt. BUT, fincantieri the company itself is not in need of money. Thus, this reflects a change of partial ownership in fincantieri. I would assume the impact on Vard would be minimal, if not positive. The current shareholder fincantieri which is wholly managed by the Italian government have not contributed much to the progression of Vard. Thus, the instillation of new blood might ignite some progression in the development of Vard in future.

Hi! I'm rather new to investing but have a couple of lots of vard too. I'm just wondering about the italian govt selling 40% of fincantieri. This 40% might consist of 55% of vard which fincantieri owns, plus some subsidiaries, or might be a certain percent of vard plus other subsidiaries. Or this 40% might not consist of any vard at all too. There is only one reason i can think of to why fincantieri will sell 55% of its stake in vard, which is that they bought it at $1.22 and want to sell it higher for profit (then there will be mandatory offer of at least $1.22). I can't think of them selling it at a loss at a price lower than $1.22. Why would the italian govt allow fincantieri to buy vard in 2012, and then allow them to sell it at a loss, knowing that they have debts to pay soon? If only a certain percent of vard is sold, for eg, 50%, then the new owner will own only half of 55% of vard. How much will this affect vard? I'm kind of rather positive about vard for long term. Please correct me if i'm wrong. |

May not make any difference as in the past. Market doesn't like uncertainty as this baby is being tossed around and market now guessing who will be the third owner?

I guess everyone would be keenly eyeing on vard's stock performance after orders win announcement. am still pining on the hope of a potential mandatory offer by fincantieri, if its ever gonna be possible =O | ||||

http://www.themeditelegraph.com/en/2013/11/18/fincantieri-bond-gmgrUYQo8ha9a7IUanzpON/index.html   Fincantieri is now 100% state-owned, through Fintecna, which in turn is part of Cdp [i.e. Cdp SpA, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti]. It is now possible that the Italian State?s comprehensive privatization plan will call for the sale of a part of the Fincantieri group. From this point of view, the bond issue was a test of the market. But there is more: Fincantieri could be one of the assets to be used to leverage the construction of a civil transportation and energy sector with partial public ownership but open to the market and international partners.  |
