Hi! swkee Orianet and singaporegal has given u a very safe and sound advice. But if you would like to take a step further ....... {{ The following suggestion is purely academic. It's your money. Caveat Emptor. }} Here goes : I am assuming that your $5K is spare money , most probably lying in ur savings account. I am sure you are aware of the interest to be gained if it were lying in the savings account or in the Fixed deposit. I am also assuming that you are newbie/beginner.The initial stage of playing stock market is capital preservation. Therefore it will be more prudent to think long term investing , to smooth out the ups and downs over time. Since you are now a member of SJ, I think it would be a good idea to make this suggestion within the context of SJ postings. The latest 'hot tips' is Victorian's Secrets List. (you can do a search on Victorian's postings and convince yourself of his recommendations) So far, he had released 5 tips and according to him , about 15 more to come. The current tips are trading at about +/-20 cents . So you could get yourself 10 or 20 lots, or more,of a combination (diversify) of the ones you fancy after conveincing yourself of the postings. And just follow up on the postings by Victorian and act accordingly. In other words, just ride on his coat tails. ( I just noticed that if you had bought 30 lots of casa on 19thjune , you would have gained $750 , a gain of 17% over just two days, beats the bank interest , doesn't it ? ) Along the way, I hope you take the effort and learn about stock market, pick up more knowledge by reading books while your "eggs are being incubated " and proceed to the next phase of ur adventure with more confidence . Hope this helps. Good luck ! As always : It's your money. You take the risk .Caveat Emptor. |

Hi, though am not a veteran in this area. But if you have the patience to earn some profits, there are still some pretty low priced stocks that you can go into. Nothing is ever guaranteed and never be greedy. Just read more, learn more, build it over time and never be afraid to ask veterans of this foru *tho don't overdo it to the extreme*. Your tolerance to risk is also another thing. I am a small player, lost quite a fair bit, earn a little bit and am still learning. In fact, am building my dad's principle sum of $1.5K *thats even lower than yours* but taking 'baby' steps at a time :) Good Luck! |

Frankly, $5000 isn't a lot for investing or trading purposes especially after you take into account commission charges. Its better to just keep it in a FD or something. |
