From my knowledge of programs such as "The Rich Jerk", they are not scams as such like the many scams out there, but an instructional package. Buying the package is something like attending an inspirational millionaire-making bootcamp or seminar. But many people seriously expect to be millionaires just by attending the inspirational seminar without doing the required hard work (which doesn't make sense at all). As an illustration, can you expect to be have a Charles Atlas type of muscle-filled body by simply buying an expensive set of weights but not putting in the required rigour? --------------- |

Hi tonersweat, STI ETF is an Exchange Traded Fund. The share price and movement follows the STI. You can purchase it like any other stock on SGX. |

Just for info, this "therichjerk.com" domain is created on 06th June 05 and expires on 06th June 07. I had a lots of friends who kena cheated quite a lot on HYIP, and normally those "scammed" domains have 3 or lesses years. Wonder if robinpang lobang is referring to HYIP or not? |

Hi robinpang: Sorry but no offence but your topic is worse than the Nigerian scam. Remember this adage: "If it is too good to be true, it probably is." There is nobody in this world who can guarantee that you are sure to make money from any business or stocks, not even the mother of all gurus - Warren Buffet himself. |

It looks like they are more interested in collecting email address and selling it to a third party to make some $! Hi ipunter...how are you? |

Haha... there are 2 threads of conversation in this topic... One slamming the Email-asking website and the other about making money in investing and diversification into Funds, FDs etc.. My opinion is that most Fund managers can't even beat the market itself. You probably have a higher chance of making a profit if you bought the STI ETF than putting the money with a Fund manager! I believe there was a study done on this before. |

Ya, I agree that sites that ask for your email before you can know what's it's about are absolute turn-offs! I mean why should I voluntarily give you my email for you to spam me (and by this, I mean actually months of non-stop junk mail after junk mail trying to sell you their producs). It can be very wearing. I just don't bother to proceed further with such sites. This kind of marketing is obsolete since the rise of spam! But some sites are really gems, beneficial stuff... without them asking for your email address before you even enter. --------------- Money is Good |

I'm usually wary of any website that asks for my email address upfront. Maybe its gathering a database of emails for spammers to use. |

I think IreneL has the right approach... quite a safe approach actually. Good approach. Regarding long-term investment, if one has been lucky enough to have bought a stock low and after a few months it went up quite a lot, then a decision must be made to 'take' the profits. But that's actually not an easy thing to do. Because when the stock is so high, many people will be excited about it and want to buy in. And so on knowing this, the temptation to hold it longer will be great. Then usually, the price is watched closely every day until it begins to fall a little at a time. Because the fall is a little wee bit at a time, there's no panic, so the wait continues. Then one day, the wee bit had added to quite a big price difference from the high point. By then there's usually still no panic or desperation. But there's hope... the hope that the price will recover... and so on (been there). Well, that's not just a story. Even sophisticated people are not spared! :) ----------------------- >>>Money is Good |

I tend to agree with the sentiments posed by sohguanh. One should never be tempted to make money in a stock market instead of sweating it out in a salaried position. And yes, to be safe, one ought to diversified. The most secured would be FD followed by Unit Trusts. With the latter, its best to pick the right funds or to appoint an PFC for advice on the best funds to invest, and its for the long haul, ie minimum 2 years before you see fruits from your investments. Unlike sohguanh, I stay clear of insurance as a form of investment except for Incomeshield cover and travel insurance. I believe, unless one has a family with dependents, term insurance appear to provide reasonable cover/benefits. But if you are single, insurance as a form of investment is a waste of $$$. Just my opinion. I am reading this book "Make Your Money Work For You" by Keon Chee & Ben Fok. Its pretty good as the authors explain the various methods of investing, how to go about investing, their risks and what are the most optimal investments. |

Hi, I suppose you can make more good money than in the stock market if you organise and run a paid seminar for this Internet business wave. That's guaranteed income! -------------- Money is Good |
