You should only start investing when you've accquired enough knowledge and understand the Markets (risks and rewards....etc) and the instruements available. Of course not forgetting the amount that you could afford to lose without hindering your livelihood. Good luck and cheers! |

For the beginners, it always good to look at UT for the simplicity. http://www.helium.com/tm/222914 There's alway UT that have a better performance as compared to the rates offered by the CPF. Below is one of the example only. http://www.fundsupermart.com/main/fundinfo/viewFund.svdo?sedolnumber=370018

Agree with klooloola. UT is for uninformed in investments. If you know how much and how often they dip into your pile of money in UT, you will be kicking yourself blue why you want to pass money to strangers who charges you every now and then even when they lose your shirt. Except for the last 2 years of boom time, almost All UT lose out to CPF. But then if you had put your money in ETF locally in the last 2 years, you will beat almost All UT hands down. Don't be hookwinked by sleazy advertisements! |

The answer is when you can save your own money and eager to learn financial stuffs. :) People are always afraid of investment, think it as gambling. But when you get into it, you will see new freedom and new furture. I had ever invested in UT. This instrument is so lame. It's better to start from stock. :) |

I would propose for starters get the kid some endowment insurance plan. It is for long term of cuz. Once kid grows up and start to have more spare monies, they can meddle in shares and UT. Basic idea is have a safe buffer behind you secured before going all out aggressively to chase for more monies. If the venture fails there is still that safe buffer to rely on. Btw, I practise the above strategy and that explain why I meddle with shares and UT only in my age 30s onwards. |

No unit trusts please, when you have the STI etf why bother with unit trusts with high fees and poor (total) performance? |

The earlier the better, instead of buying a new car or condo, parents should invest in equity index funds for their kids, hopefully if stocks do well enough the kid can retire at 18 ;) |
