Fairygal, Very right - it's important to realise that at the end of the day, all the wealth one can get from the stockmarket, can only be enjoyed if one is in good health. On a side note, I think STI will breakout by Monday, seeing how DJIA rejected the drop last night and STI now pushing up again. |

I know of many 18yr old babes and catwalk models who benefited from buying low selling high.... They took private inter-courses from me, they can even use it at the GSS to buy their favourite shoes at low price, but dunno if they can be sold at high price? If they can do it... so can you. Don't give up! From the ppl's Champion guru Robert with Romance |

In terms of price, how high is high and how low is low really is up to each investor. Remember each time you sell, thinking it's high for you, someone else is buying from you. And when you buy low, there is a someone who is willing to sell high in his view to you. It's really about the stock, the market sentiment, and about something one knows, and unknown to the other. |

Oh yes, Livermore, averaging, not hedging, is one method i am considering but i guess different shares/stocks will have to be studied (as i find them with different characteristics just like we have different types of character players in the market) prior to determine which method is best and suitable to be applied on any particular counter. Of course, nothing is for sure as sudden turn of events & external factors could happen & affect/disrupt analysis anytime (the recent likes of SembMar, Cocos, Uni-Asia, COA, Worldcom and with ppl like Nick Leeson and George Sorros and not forgeting war lover George Bush, Middle East situations etc etc). I could go long term as a value investor but given a chance, won't rule out the fact that speculative punting will come into play for quick bucks. Any advice on BH Global which i am eyeing for a while ? Thanks for sharing |

Most of us started out in the market with this buy low sell high method. Well there is nothing really wrong with that. It is a simple method. But whether you are a trader or a value investor, there is more to it than just buy low sell high. Let's say stock A is 50c and its 52 week high is 90c. Stock B is 40c but its 52 week high is 60c. It does not mean stock A is a better buy. Creative and Chartered are at very low prices now. There could be limited downside but I would rather give these stocks a miss. Another thing about the buy low sell high method is for some they "die die" must wait for that ideal price otherwise they won't buy. Noble Group was range bound from 90c to $1.20. When it hit $1.20, some sold and then they decided to wait again for 90c. But that 90c never came once Noble Group crossed $1.22. When it continued to go up, some still refused to buy because it their minds "I must buy low sell high". Noble Group is already past $2 |

Newbies don't dare to buy low bcoz they are scared. so they buy higher and higher bcoz their short sightedness says it will go higher and higher. Only genius like me knows how to take full advantage of buying low selling high...Amen. Robert with sexiness |

I still remember white _tiger (Robert) recommedned Creative about 3 or 4 months back saying it was cheap. Creative had been falling since then and now $5.90. Most people like to buy low sell high. My style is a bit different. I don't try to get the lowest price. In fact I average up (up to a certain range only). Thus I have a tendency to buy high but I sell higher. It is hard to explain why I do that. |

Hi KiLrOy, Many thanks for your valuable input to a person like me who has been watching and listening from sideline and decided finally to lay a finger and put my money into action. Yes, i have heard of all those terms you have mentioned and am still learning to figure out 'exactly' what they means and the implication they have on a company. Once again, my sincere thanks for your time taken to share your experiences with me/us as i believe all of us were beginners/newbies/starters once upon a time and sad to say, some still are even after years of being in the same trade (be it trading or other matters).....whether you (KiLrOy) have made or loss money throughout these years in trading, your attitude and mentality in the willingness to share in this very forum has garnered respect from me, unlike others. Respect is what others give, Shame is what you brought upon yourself. Thank You |

loyfam88, I agree stock price matters but I dont think we aim to buy at the lowest. We can ever do that? However we can try a combination of technical analysis to time the BUY signal when price is right to buy. Value investors employ DCA since they have no need to liquidate in a short term. As there is no way one can determine the lowest price to buy and why should we. Here's how we determine the price to buy. After carefully analyses a company, decides exactly what it is worth, we will not buy the stock unless it is trading at a substantial discount to its intrinsic value. Simple as that. The fundamental belief among value investors that although the stock market may, in the short-term, wildly depart from the fundamentals of a business, in the long-run the fundamentals are all that matter. This is the basis behind the famous Ben Graham quote "In the short-term the market is a voting machine, in the long-term, a weighing one." Sadly, some reject this basic principle of the stock market. Someone asserted that "the economic fundamentals of a company have no relation to the stock price." This is completely false. The response was a simple message that read "If fundamentals don't matter, what if Coca-Cola never sold another bottle of Coke? How long do you think the stock price would stay at its current level?" |

I think everyone knows this basis fundamental but it's easier said than done.. How do you know it's the lowest??? You may think you bought low but it went down even further. So having encountered such experiences, it made people more cautious. |

I agree with Kilroy. If you focus on long term potential stocks with a little bit of TA, the rewards will be great. It is better than playing with so many stocks |

psycho, Fundamental analysis is important. There are tools for fundamental analysis. They focus on earnings, growth, and value in the market. I believe you may have heard some of the forumers here uses the following Earnings per Share ? EPS Price to Earnings Ratio ? P/E Projected Earning Growth ? PEG Price to Sales ? P/S Price to Book ? P/B Dividend Payout Ratio Dividend Yield Book Value Return on Equity No single number from this list is a magic bullet that will give you a buy or sell recommendation by itself, however as you begin developing a picture of what you want in a stock, these numbers will become benchmarks to measure the worth of potential investments. |
