12cts div proposal declared in Co's 2006 FY result announcement. It will need shareholders to approval the proposal and this is usually done during the Co AGM. After shareholders approve, it will be 'official'. With this sort of generous div, what shareholder in their right mind will object? |

There is no indication of dividend in the teletext. So where did the info regarding 12 c dividened come from? Was it Ex-div ? Or is it coming ? when is the Ex-div date ? Thanks to geojam, ewaver and others |

it may not be inherently the problem with the stock... there are market environmental factors at play as well that might affect the stock. Plus with the holiday in the US and UK, the overall market volume traded for SGX market is lower. |

Huh? Taking a price level of between 50 to 60 cents, that would be between 20 to 24%?!?! Thats riduculously high! So even if prices rocket now, does it mean it will plunge when the company does not keep up with this kind of dividend level the next time round? |

while sp shipping has substantial cash in its assets, and good dividend, i would caution that currently sp shipping does not hv an interesting business proposition after it hive off cougar logistics. by itself without cougar, sp is attractive unless it comes out clear on its new biz plan. that i think is why there is no mad rush to buy sp for its cash and dividend. |

Some view points: 1. The dividend payout of 12 cents (TAX EXEMPT) is much more GENEROUS that anyone has expected. 2. Actually the company has a total of $200mln CASH now ($184m + $20m-$4m) and its zero debt. This translates to almost 46cents of CASH!! 3. The management is very savvy as it has managed to sell ships at the high of the cycle and lock in huge profits. Then they will slowly wait for the cycle to ease off before buying new ships cheaper for the next cycle. 4. The management is moving into car carrier ships. This is good on 2 accounts: higher margins and the contracts for leasing these ships are longer (5-10 years) versus other ships. 5. Last year the company gave a total of 4 cents (net of tax) and the stock price jumped from 47cts to 62 cts eventually. This time the dividend is a FANTASTIC 12 cents (tax free)!! So I expect it to rally above 62 cents!! |

I am transfered my previous posting (on 22 May) on Sp Ship from another thread to here: Emailed to me from a dealer:
"In the current jittery market, there are still opportunities, especially in the form of safe, cash rich companies that have the potential for special dividends payout soon.
One such stock is Singapore Shipping Corp (SSC). It is is trading 8% below is NTA of $0.52 Out of which, more than $0.40 is in CASH (net of debt). So the current price is 83% backed by net cash.
During the current FY, SSC has sold some ships. There will very likely be a special dividend payout when they announce their final year result this coming week. It is estimated SSC would give a total dividend payout of 8-10cts as it has about S$175mln of net cash. Even after giving out 10cts of dividends ($43.6mln), it will still have more than S$131mln in cash to buy new ships and expand its business.
Last year, in May 05, it announced a dividend of 5cts and the share price jumped from $0.47 to $0.52 within a few days, before trending up further to $0.62.
As the announcement date approaches (this week), there should be a good run-up towards $0.55 level."
