These are the success factors of a good trader, in my 2 cents opinion - (1) Ability to trade objectively with no emotions (2) Knowledge and skill in some form of trading methodology (be it TA, FA or both) (3) Character Traits - Confidence (no second guessing yourself) without being Egoistic (able to accept that you have made a mistake and take losses) and Endurance (able to take setbacks and carry on trading) Any comments? |

I have been losing alot too due to my inexperience and lack of knowledge. Even when the stock that I am holding escalate, I tend to take profit too early. As a result, my profits cannot cover my loses. I am now slowly learning the trade and start to make some money. Thanks to www.shareowl.com. Since I subscribed to this portal, I have learned alot from Prof Chong whose insight towards share investment is valueless. I like to say to all fellow members is that there is a lot to learn in share investment. The day will come when you will make money. I have also learned alot from TA specialist in this forum. I hope we could continue to share our knowledge and prosper. Cheers |

I agree with Lawrencechoo, don't hold on to losing trade. It is always a good practice to set a stop loss point and adhere to it. The priority should be to save your capital when you see your counter goes past your stop loss point. Brokerage is only a small cost. Your loss will easily come to many times of your brokerage if you hold on. Worst, you still have to pay brokerage when you finally sell with a heavier loss. |

I understand that to some, brokerage fee is hard to bear, especially if you are just investing small amounts. However, you just have to weigh if the brokerage deduction is easier to bear than the potential lost you may face if you hold on to the stocks, in the event it never goes up again. I always like to tell myself, why hold on to something which is definitely going down and wait for it to go up, then to take out the money and buy something which will probably go up in the meantime. |

If you're concern with paying brokerage fees, then I suggest you forget about the Stock Market. As a 'player' in the Stock Market, you time should be spent in making sure that your purchases are doing well and your principal capital protected which I know is very difficult to do all the times. It is not how much taxes that I paid; it is how much money I could make that is important! Cheers!!! |

I like the way you trade your stocks. But to other it's very difficult to get the right timing. We have to think about the brokerage involve and in long run a losing game. |

I agree with Lawrence. Sometimes you cannot just hold onto a stock even if you have the cash to do so. Sometimes it is better to be safe and sell first. When things reverse, then buy back. |

My view is that for pure TA, always know how to cut your losses by selling before it reaches below a percentage you think you can bear (eg 8%). For some stocks, it may never climb up as high as it should ever again. Even if a stock is a good stock which is currently dipping, cut the loss by selling, and keep the money to buy once you see the stock turning up (eg for last 2 weeks, DBS share, when it started dipping from 17.80 to 17, sell when 17.60 if you analysis tells you it will go down further. Once it turns up from 17 - 17.20, buy, then you will earn a bigger percentage when it goes to 18+, rather than hanging on to 17.8 and waiting for it to swing up pass this mark). |

Yup, teeth53 is right to say that 2molo is not the right day to buy cos STI will rocket anyway. Better to buy before 8th Aug as there is 50% chance of interest rate hike-pause. If there is indeed a hike pause as predicted by most analysts, stock market will rocket world wide! Catch this wave ... I expect a brief rally from early August to late September. Thereafter, time to off-load cos Q3 earnings will be out in October. Tech stocks will be badly hit as most tech companies reported a flat Q3. But if tech companies do a surprising reverse reporting in October instead (due to coming Christmas season), Q4 will be heavenly shiok! Oil and energy stocks will continue to be good due to the coming winter season. Hope oil price won't hit USD 100 a barrel by then or I will sell my car and take BMW (Bus/MRT/Walk).. :P Above are only my own opinions. I am a time-frame (calendar) person and lousy with charts (TA & FA, etc ...). Trade with care cos only you are responsible for your own money. |
