Singapore shares closed sharply higher Monday,
swept up in a broader regional rally amid hopes the Federal Reserve will cut
interest rates further to spur growth in the US, a key market for Asian goods.
Gains by banking shares and a record performance by bourse operator Singapore
Exchange (SGX) helped lift the benchmark Straits Times index (STI).
