China Southern Fund Management Co has applied to regulators to double the size of its first global stock fund to 30 b yuan to meet demand, two company sources familiar with the matter said. The fund is the first overseas stock fund launched by a Chinese fund house under the country's Qualified Domestic Institutional Investor (QDII) scheme, which is partly aimed at easing upward pressure on the yuan. A handful of other fund firms, including China Asset Management and JPMorgan's China fund venture, are planning similar moves. China Southern has said it would invest proceeds of the fund mainly in stocks and equity funds in 10 overseas markets: Hong Kong, the US, Japan, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, India, Brazil, Malaysia and South Korea. S'pore was not mentioned. So you may only see a trickle of money coming here, at least initially. |

They will only be allowed to buy China stocks in HK from Sep. HK will the prime beneficiary. China may open up to other countries later, but that could take months. Besides, China markets are performing so well, I think most Chinese will continue to invest in China for the highest returns. So only a fraction of US$1.5 trillion would make itself out of the country. |

U hve seen how HK mkt recover spectacularly fast as China has allowed its residents to buy directly...previously only institutions are allowed to do so directly. Zao Bao dtd 23Aug claims US$ 1.5 trillion may flood world markets if China allows all citizens to buy overseas stocks. The SSE continues to hit new records crossing 5000 mark despite recent China's raise of interest rates again..looks like Chinese govt has to act faster as its own stock markets cannot be forced down too easily..this outburst of fund shd be allowed to find its way to other markets . |
