heh heh. giantlow, all that glitters may not be gold. And only time will tell if my calls are accurate or not. Let's not get caught up in irrational exuberance. In the stock market, time is the gold standard. iPunter, act i'm a published writer (just a small fry of course) both locally and overseas. but no, i don't blog. like my privacy. sold your singtel already? ok people, i think we've digressed enough already; weekend's over, trading week begins, let's get serious. We'll leave private conversations to private times. Let's not disappoint the thousands (!! so scary!) of viewers wanting to find tips/education. hm, and i've said before already, i abhor the kind of slime-ing and verbal abuse that characterises so many local forums. If that ever happens here, this elf is outta here man. So let's make sharejunction a cut above the rest; a fun, friendly and educational haven for all the small fishies out there. yea? :) eyes on the screen, people. In a fallow week like this, you can get bargains, and you can also get caught. Trends change very fast. |

btw, a bit belated, but i perceive ppl are having problems with my nick. feel free to shorten it to elf. :) rogue_trader, i agree with you. Which is why i choose to back up all my trades in full cash, rather than margin calling. It makes me take full responsibility for myself and that i never end up in debt. much the same way i don't believe in living life on credit. in a way i guess, this involves taking more risks. but hey, that's how we learn. :) |

elfinchilde, no choice. If no risks, no gains and no experience learned. Risks to me are not only about profits as sometimes it can "transform" one into a more "learned and stronger" person. Like a saying "If you don't fail, you will never succeed" and is only true when the larger risks are involved, the "higher/lower" will one goes to. |

haha...iPunter and rogue_trader, i see i was right when i said you two are risk takers and not opposed to shorting counters. haha. hats off to you two man! :) oh ok i don't havta do cfd then. i currently trade by proxy (buy via someone else) so it's pretty much scriptless and all for me. just transfer money can already. haha. thanks for the info you two, i'll definitely keep it in mind! and eh?? blur liao...who or what's ivy? |

Another 'minus' with CFD is one tends to overtrade and thus risk overexposure.... But Ivy will love it! |

Fully agreed with iPunter that CFD is the greatest facility.. CFD sometimes are very good with TA people because sometimes when readings from a chart is downtrending, the counter might takes a few days to "respond" to the indicators.. Bad side of CFD, interest is accrued even on non-trading days and if 30 days are over, "fresh" brokerage fees incurred. |

and with CFD, although you buy and sell exactly like as though you normally do with cash, it has nothing to do with actual scripts and the CDP. It's all a 'virtual' game if you like to call it that, without the bothersome hassle. You just pocket the profits or take the loss once you close your position (anytime). Think of it like the normal contra play you do with your present broker, except that the due date is 30 days instead of the usual short period. Great facility since 2003! |

Basically CFD is great if you - a) need the 5X margin leverage ie. you deposit only 25% of your total trading amount. But if you have too much cash on hand to really bother about margin, it's not necessary. b) wants to sell short but don't want the trouble of borrowing script. This is too attractive to ignore. Options are great too... :) |

heya...my internet access is sooo screwy. argh. i take it you mean contracts for differences? don't have an online trading acct currently; got a real, live (flesh and blood! haha) broker only. i act don't do any kind of margin trading; back up all my trades with solid cash; thus far 'specialise' in trading long only. partly 'cos of work reasons. not much time to monitor. next year start new job too. open to the option tho. i need some clarification: cfd is just like normal trading, just that you don't actually pay up until you sell (long), or buy (shortsell)? haha, what do ya rec on it? |
