The return of Davy Jones: Shares of Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) , which runs the world''s eighth-biggest container liner rose as much as 9.3 percent to a record high of S$5.90 with 1.3 million shares traded as investors expect freight rates to rally following recent ship purchases made by shipping firms. NOL said last Thursday that it would buy eight container ships worth a total of $1 billion. "The shipping firms are buying new ships, and that''s a good indicator that the companies are forecasting that freight rates will rebound," said a local dealer. STX Pan Ocean , a South Korean shippin firm, said on Monday that it had acquired four new ships at under $30 million each. Last week, the company announced that it had bought two container ships for under $40 million each. |

UBS : "We are downgrading our rating on NOL from Buy 2 to Reduce 2?the share price is above our 12-month price target of S$4.80. Our price target and earnings estimates remain unchanged, as we believe there has been little additional news flow. In a report dated 20 June 2007, we discussed the possibility of OOIL bidding for NOL. We would not expect any potential offer price to significantly exceed current price levels." |

"No money, no honey" !!! Very funny, really is very humourous. I like that. Have been watching the wave but not riding it leh. Yes, I am still watching. Only watching. Like you say, actually fundamentally not much has changed except rising freight rate. In fact, I think NOL's financial health has not improved and profit $$ is not convincing. Thus, I couldn't undertanding why it keeps rising. It is actually the best performing stock among STI from first day of 2007. Other than buy calls from 2 or 3 major foreign banks, there isn't other catalysts for growth. Most of what these banks said ain't too convincing. The only one that I buy (the idea) is the possibility of NOL selling it's ports to trust funds. This came out only last week. Previously, there were rumours that NOL might be setting trust funds like other shipping trust. Those rumours have so far proved to be unfounded but it has helped pushed the price upward quite a bit. Funny thing is it didn't drop back down. From what I know, NOL owns very few ships. |

UBS ups Neptune Orient Lines to Buy from Neutral, raises target to S$4.80 from S$3.00, now includes its port assets in valuation on view some could be sold; "while far from certain, we believe management is evaluating the merits of a partial sell-down of terminal assets. This could be a catalyst for the share price, leading to a significant re-rating." Notes NOL's U.S. west coast terminals appear to be high quality, scarce assets with 10-20 year remaining lease terms. Continues to expect depressed profits as high charter, fuel costs offset recovery in trans Pacific freight rates. NOL closed Friday +1.5% at S$4.04. |

NOL rose to a record $4.16 on hopes of firmer freight rates, dealers said. Some investors are betting that freight rates may rise in the 2nd half of the year, which would help to boost the firm's earnings, one dealer said. NOL may also be looking at acquisitions in India and China, said a dealer from another firm, adding that the firm is expected to beef up its fleet size this year. |

I heard it is because of the rise of marine transporation fee in the coming months, which will affect the profit of NOL actively. Need to reset its target price liao. $4.50? |
