I was refering to this.....link on Mermaid Prospectus nothing is written on PER. Unlike others, oso has seen this 39X PER been put up in CNA forum. http://masnet.mas.gov.sg/opera/sdrprosp.nsf/936bad13609791c948256b3e001ed49f/4D20D7D7E3F30DBD4825736F0012FEAA/$File/Clean%20Prospectus.pdf. It is written on the EDGE.mag as mentioned, on pg-20, any link...can anyone link it?. thk |

After scanning through it IPO, does not mentioned any thing about it PER Ratio.. ???.

My question is : Why is this company is in a rush to close the IPO ? Today open, tommorrow close. Is it confident to garner a huge subscription rate ? Very rare for such big ipo ? If subcription rate is just so-so, how can the share price trade high ??? |

It would raise $218 million to expand its oil-rig business, as high prices spur oil companies to step up exploration. The firm aims to sell 140 million new shares at $1.56 each. At least 7 million shares have been earmarked for retail investors. The shares are expected to start trading on Oct 16. Mermaid has a fleet of 2 oil rigs, and 4 owned and 2 chartered engineering vessels. The company said proceeds from the share sale will pay for the construction of two more oil rigs and a vessel. It added that it had ordered another vessel due to be delivered in 2009, to meet demand from the booming oil and gas sector. "Five years ago talking about two years in advance was crystal-ball gazing. It's different today when you consider the price of oil, and you look at future project requirements," Mermaid Maritime Managing Director David Simpson told reporters at a briefing. Mermaid Maritime's key customers include Chevron, CUEL and PTT Exploration and Production. Mermaid Maritime reported sales of 3.14 billion baht in its financial year to Sep '06, and 3.12 billion baht in the 9 months to Jun '07, it said in its prospectus. But the company added that a crane boom failure and a fire on one of its tender rigs resulted in downtime that would cut its rig utilization rates and adversely affect its year full-year '07 results. I think, because of this, it may not perform well at first. But longer term, it should perform well. Maybe don't subscribe, but buy in the market? |

The demand for oil in the PRC has grown rapidly over the past decade driven by sustainable strong economic growth. Given the strong economic growth in the PRC over the past years, demand for oil has soared. The PRC is now one of the largest oil consuming countries in the world. Demand and consumption of oil in the PRC is expected to increase in the future, driven by the expected continuing economic growth, industrialisation, urbanisation and growing affluence of the population. It is generally expected that in the next ten years, the daily demand for oil in the PRC will double its present demand and by 2020, more than half of the PRC?s oil demand will have to be met through imports from overseas. For the above reasons, the PRC is putting together a comprehensive plan to include the carrying out of more oil exploration, development and production activities in the PRC, setting up of strategic oil reserves, acquisition of overseas oil resources, and the building of a country-wide oil and gas pipeline network. Our Directors believe that, in view of our Group?s competitive strengths, these initiatives will result in an increase in demand for our services and products. Development of Natural Gas Market in the PRC In light of the committed effort of the PRC Government to ensure more efficient use of energy and to identify alternative energy sources, the PRC Government has taken initiatives to promote the wider use of natural gas as an alternative form of energy, and its usage in the industrial and power generation, residential and transportation sectors, is expected to grow. The PRC Government?s initiatives to promote the use of natural gas in the PRC have resulted in rising expenditures in the gas equipment market over the last few years. The substantial investments made by the PRC Government in respect of the construction of gas pipelines and LNG import terminals and port infrastructure are poised to have a significant impact on the supply and thus the widespread usage of natural gas in regions where such source of energy was generally unavailable before. |

The firm is a provider of drilling and sub-sea engineering services for the oil and gas industry in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. The firm's clients include some of the major oil companies such as BP and Royal Dutch Shell, and also Thailand's PTT Exploration and Production PCL, the company said. Mermaid, which owns 2 tender oil rigs, plans to use the proceeds to build more rigs and a shipping vessel, and may acquire assets for its drilling and sub-sea engineering services. It said one of its units is in talks with rig builders for the building of 2 tender rigs, potentially costing US$250 million to US$300 million. It will use proceeds from the IPO and debt to finance the new rigs. Macquarie Securities (S) Pte Ltd is the lead manager, book-runner and underwriter for the IPO. BNP Paribas Capital (S) Ltd and DBS Bank are also co-lead managers and underwriters. |

Thoresen Thai Agencies Plc (TTA) The company also said that it is planning a $170 million convertible bond issue by year-end. 'The objective is to provide Mermaid with independent access to equity markets to finance its growth plans,' Thoresen Thai said in a statement to the Stock Exchange of Thailand. Mermaid, which handles the offshore business of Thoresen Thai, is benefiting from the surge in demand for offshore business as there is a robust demand from oil and gas exploration and a shortage of global tender rigs. , the 2nd largest shipping company inThailand, plans to list its subsidiary here. TTA, which has been one of the country's best performing stocks on the back of rising freight rates, said its board has approved a plan to list its 78.1% owned unit Mermaid Maritime Plc on SGX, although it didn't set any time frame for the listing. |
