Credit Suisse raises Hi-P International FY08 net profit forecast 12% on better margins following encouraging ramp by RIM, greater insourcing, lower start-up losses in Poland as work efficiencies improve. Forecasts FY09 sales to +6% on further rampup of RIM and Nokia, new models from Gillette, new tier- 1 handset clients; but expects lower revenue from Poland to partially offset rise. Projects FY09 net profit +18% on lower forex losses. Says share trading at 4X-5X FY09 P/E, 0.9X P/B, attractive as business comfortably profitable, earnings recovering. Keeps at Outperform with target price at $0.82 based on undemanding 7X FY09 P/E. "We believe the decent results for the upcoming quarters will help drive a rerating."

Hi-P International builds on yesterday's gains as company's more bullish guidance for 2Q08 continues to attract buyers. The contract manufacturer says 2Q08 results should show improvement over 1Q08 due to better wireless sales, reduced FX losses. "Based on the revised guidance, we estimate Hi-P's 1H08 earnings could easily hit 60% of our full-year forecast," says Credit Suisse; adds "we might have to revise our full-year forecast." DBS Vickers reinitiates Hi-P International at Buy, sets $0.80 target price. Broker says contract manufacturer's recent 2Q08 guidance indicates it is seeing a stronger than expected recovery. "Guidance points to 2Q08 net profit of at least $25 million, which represents 70% on-year growth, and proves that strong 1Q08 performance was not a blip." Says update should relieve worries company would be hit by high oil price, appears to be passing costs on, managing costs well. Adds, valuation attractive vs peers, stock trading on 5.1X FY08 earnings vs peers on 6X-9X.

Credit for Hi-P International's robust performance should go to its top customer, Research in Motion (RIM), as the Singapore company rides on smart-phone boom, UOB KayHian says in report. Notes Hi-P raised 2Q08 guidance, expecting improved results on-quarter vs previous guidance for lower 2Q08 profit. Says RIM has overtaken Motorola (MOT) as Hi-P''s largest client, revenue contribution expanded to about 30% of total sales vs about 20% in 2007. "We expect new models will continue to be unveiled in 2H08, and contribution could reach as high as 35% of total sales by end of FY08." Notes Hi-P is main supplier of mechanical components for RIM, fulfilling 60% of RIM requirements, with Hi-P benefitting from RIM market share gains, steady volume growth. Keeps at Buy; reviewing $0.65 target price.

Hi-P International rose after the contract manufacturer says 2Q08 results should show improvement over 1Q08. Update is big improvement from previous guidance that warned revenue, net profit would fall on-quarter. "It''s definitely positive, the question now is what is the magnitude of the increase," says DBS Vickers analyst Sachin Mittal; notes not yet clear how much of an on quarter improvement will be achieved as 1Q was very strong. Adds, key is whether this marks start of better performance; "is this just a flash in the pan or is it really sustainable?" Presence of decent traded volume, oversold signals from technical indicators suggests share could head tad higher with resistance tipped at 30-day moving average of $0.54.

Tomorrow, the share price should be down as US market is below water now. Nowaday, the movement of the share price depends largely on US market, not so much whether the company announced good news or bad news. Of course, US market down + bad news will bring the share price even lower. |

CITI - Sell: Not Out of the Woods Yet ? Cutting Estimates, Target Price Sell/High Risk 3H from Sell/Low Risk Price (06 Nov 07) S$0.57 Target price S$0.64 from S$0.72 Expected share price return 12.3% Expected dividend yield 1.4% Expected total return 13.7% Market Cap S$506M US$350M Maintain Sell ? Stripping out one-off items, Hi-P would have beat our and consensus forecasts. Despite the prospect of earnings improving sharply in 4Q07, we maintain our call and believe share price appreciation and upside to our earnings forecast is limited due to: 1) Resin, a key feedstock for plastic firms will likely see a spike over the next 1-2 quarters due to the recent oil price increase. This scenario occurred previously in 2004-05, hurting plastic producers' margins sharply. It is likely to repeat again since suppliers like Hi-P will absorb raw material price volatility. 2) Strong macro headwinds ? Slowing economic growth in the US and further forex risks are strong macro headwinds. Another key challenge is to turn the Polish operations (S$7.8m losses) around. Hi-P enjoys the support from Braun, but is not likely to breakeven till 2H08 due to poor yield and operational issues. 3) Vertical integration ? Management wants to re-engage its vertical integration strategy, beef up R&D solutions to enhance value proposition. Components include flexible PCBs, hinges, and glass. We believe this model is highly competitive, crowded by significantly larger players and raises execution risks. Cutting estimates, raising risk rating ? We are cutting estimates by 7-12% over 08-09E and expect net profit to reach S$65m and S$73m respectively and set our target price at S$0.64, based on 9x 08E P/E. We have changed our risk rating from Low Risk to High Risk to reflect higher execution risks. |

Based on my TA analysis, RSI, MACD are giving buy signal. Yesterday's price had broke out from the 5 and 20 days SMA and Bollinger band. It seem like this counter is picking up again. But beware that there is still no concrete plan in how the new CEO going to turn around the current situation. |
