The sell down could be due to the rejected land ownership claims. But it surged after the firm said a district court had rejected land ownership claims against Gallant. An Indonesian firm had filed the claims against 2 of Gallant's units in Indonesia, but could not substantiate the claims before the Tanjung Pinang District Court in Bintan, Gallant said in a statement late on Thursday night. |

Was lifted by a married trade of 107.6m shares at $0.84 yesterday. Talk has been rife that the company could be close to making an announcement about some land sales in Dec and this married trade accompanied talks of the coming on-board of a 'strategic investor'. |

It rose after CLSA began coverage of the stock with a "buy". CLSA cited a target price of $1.10. Analyst Scott Brixen said in a client note that up to 85% of Gallant's value resides in its land bank on Bintan -- which CLSA values at more than $2 billion, or "a significant premium" to the firm's $541 million book value. Brixen expects Gallant to report a net profit of $25.6 million for the 2006 financial year, or more than 4x the previous year's profit. Shares in Gallant were sold at $0.50 in its IPO, but plunged about 40% below the issue price when the stock started trading on June 6. Since then, the share price has roughly tripled. |

Bintan Resorts saw tourist arrivals up 20% yoy in 1H06. Bintan Resorts is clearly seeing a strong recovery following the doldrums of 2005 which were affected by concerns followig the '04 Boxing Day tsunami on the South-west coast of Sumatra. KE estimates that operations in Bintan Resorts accounted for around 12% of Gallant's revenues (including utilities) in FY05, and will grow to around 15% in FY06. With the strong recovery in visitor arrivals, and the expected strong flux of tourist arrivals into S'pore from the IRs, this validates Gallant's strategy for the development of the Lagoi Bay, KE expects Gallant's revenue to be boosted by the provision of utilities and ancilliary services such as infrastructure and transportation for Bintan Resorts. |

SIAS says it has started covering Gallant Venture with a target price of $1.05 because it expects the company to benefit from the planned transformation of the Indonesian islands of Bintan and Batam into special economic zones (SEZs). "Gallant has positioned itself to fully take advantage of the SEZ," SIAS said. Gallant owns and operates industrial parks and resorts on the Indonesian islands. It also owns 18,400 hectares of undeveloped land on Bintan island, which can be used for resort, residential, commercial and industrial developments. "We believe that Gallant's value is locked within its vast land bank and, once unlocked, it will create a virtuous cycle within its growth," SIAS said. |

Hi sandbox. Based on my experience the chance of hitting their 12-mth price targets is very slim. Only in cases where the performance is very strong and the price targets get upgraded, do the previous price targets get hit. That's why I always emphasized to apply a safety margin. But positve reports do drive up the share price. |

Report from KE: It's a S'pore-based holding company with 16 companies in its stables. Its major shareholders are Salim Group (effective 40%), Sembcorp (26.8%), Ascendas (7.3%) and UOB (2.5%). Its landbank is undervalued, has stable cash flows from its industrial estates, and blossoming Utilities and Resort Operations sales from the planned development of Bintan Resorts. Its property development business has 18,400 ha of land held in its books at just $2.97psm, or $541m total. It expects that it can sell these lands for 5-30x its book value, based on indicative pricing. Revaluing conservatively this land bank for develoment over the next 25 years, this would yield a discounted RNAV for the land bank alone at $2.0b, or a surplus of $0.60/share. However, for KE's base case valuation of $1.02, it is only factoring in the development of Lagoi Beach Village (LBV), or less than 10% of its extensive landbank. The first phase of Gallant's land sales will be developed over the next 5-7 years. KE is optimistic that LBV will be a main catalyst for Bintan Resorts' long-term development. The price target has not factored in speculation of a possible casino development on Bintan. |

Rose on persistent talks that it could be in talks with a strategic partner to develop a resort in Bintan. Speculation was rife that Malaysia's Landmarks could be the strategic partner. Adding fuel to the speculations was the emergence of Genting as the major shareholder at Landmarks. |

It is the biggest industrial park operator and utilities provider in Batam and Bintan islands. The company is managed by its 2 reputable major shareholders, the Salim Group and SembCorp Industries, which should provide the synergy for the timely development of the islands. There's significant earnings potential from its Bintan landbank. The company focuses on developing the 1,504.6ha Lagoi Bay, North Bintan, that will provide potential earnings of $412m. Additional revenues from the sale of the remaining 16,700ha landbank in North and West Bintan could post potential sales of $1.8b. There are plenty of growth drivers from:
With debt of only $137.6m, balance sheet is relatively sound with low net gearing of just 3.3%. With higher sales generated from future landbank sales and stronger cash flow from operations, the company has a sound foundation and in a good financial position for stronger growth. Despite trading at a high FY07 PER of 19.2x, its sizeable landbank puts the stock at 2007 P/B of only 1.2x, compared to its regional peers' 3.0x. This stock provides exciting earnings growth potential, but without the high forex, management or credit risks often associated with Indonesia investment exposures. UOBKH has a target price is $0.88. |

Rose $0.06 yesterday despite its denial of involvement in a gaming resort. A recent article in a Malaysian financial magazine had suggested a local company there being involved in a casino project in Bintan and the possibilities of 'roping Gallant in as a partner'. But 2H06 net profit plunged 89% yoy. This was due to strengthening of S$ to the US$, higher operating costs due to high fuel cost and lifting of fuel subsidies in Indonesia, and higher tax expenses. So take care. |
