coffeshop owner sets the rules and rents out the stalls and collects the rent .... the stalls are very profitable (the house always win ) .....the children become co-owners of the stalls and take home part of the profits, and can also have an eye on the stall operator .... end of the day , the family's bank account swells ... wouldn't that be wonderful ... one is government , the other is a business entity .... |

govt is already intervening with legislation to prevent pit bulls, rottweilers etc...and to deal with social cost like one can ask the casino to exclude so and so... and how they threaten not to give GIL gaming license when Stanley Ho tried to buy into SC thereby getting his one foot into Sgp's gaming scene. No need to invest $$. Just sit there and collect gaming tax and yet still can control how the things should be run. Isn't that smarter. If the social costs is that huge, they will not give the nod to opening not just one, but 2 casinos. Also,take a look at Temasek's portfolio as published in the newspaper one month back, they are all iinto prim and proper industries... very typical of our garment. |

agree with tanglinboy pit bulls , rottweilers , german shepards , and dobermans are popular guard dogs . they are also very viscious and deadly too. vicious dogs are a danger to human safety and owners have a responsibility to keep their pets from inflicting pain and suffering upon others The moral of the story : shouldn't have brought them but since they are here , exhibit them and collect revenue, but at the same time have tight and vigilant leash on them ... one way is to have co-ownership ... .. revenue from gaming is nothing new here ... |

I tend to disagree. I think the government should be involved in the running of the IR at least from the policy point of view because there are other social costs involved other than just tourist dollars. |

ah... i just posted my guess in the GIL thread.. copy here: pension: remember the govt fought for a long time for moral/vice concerns whether to have it build or not... guess since we HAVE build it because we did not want to lose tourist $$, the next thing best thing to keep a moral upperhand is to stay out of this investment. |
