Just saw a blind woman blowing harmonica at Kovan today. I was there around 5.30pm and left at 8.45pm. Think she was sitting there whole day, performing oldies to the passerby. Can't help but throw a dollar to her precious tin can. |

Although this forum is for stocks and shares, here's my two cents' worth : Ordinarily, I would give to beggars who are handicapped and some of these goes around hawker centres, and old men/women selling tissues. I avoid giving to able-bodied men/women. However lately I have seen some decently dressed middle-aged women (on MRT trains!) and even a young woman going around hawker centres begging for money (usually $2/-). To such beggars I would asked them why they need money and if they say they are hungry, I asked them to order whatever they want and I will settle their bills - no cash given. They usually scoot off after hearing this. My personal view is that, where it can be seen that genuine assistance is needed, I should not beget the small amount I give out. Ultimately, life on earth is transcient and its up to that beggar person to determine how he/she wants to live that life. When we meet with our Creator, I want to be able to say that I have rendered assistance where needed. Its also a question of one's conscience. The article is well written and its disgusting that some people have stood this low. |
