It hopes to gain footholds in Vietnam and India within the next 12 months, ECS CEOTay Eng Hoe said. Mr Tay said that his company was in discussions with various parties about forming partnerships in these countries. He said ECS would expand in countries in which it already has a presence and consider mergers and acquisitions if the right opportunities came along.
He said ECS can continue to expand in China where it is not well covered in the Western part. There?s also a lot of scope for expansion in Indonesia in and outside of Jakarta. Mr Tay also reiterated ECS's confidence that its earnings this year will be higher than the $20.1m in net profit it posted for 2006, given the growing demand for IT products in East Asia. |

Today CIMB-GK has raised target price for the stock from $0.48 to $0.61. Some key figures for FY06 based on $0.37/share: PE=6.6 P/B=0.8X ROE=10.7% dividend yield=3.8% net gearing=70% Technically $0.39 is the major resistance. But looking at the volume so far today, it may not be able to break out. Incidentally, both DBS and Net Research-Asia have set target price at $0.50 |

If you take a small punt for it to go down, it can be quite fun. But take your small profit. :) |

From CIMB-GK (5/12/2006) ECS Holdings (S$0.37) - Executing well Our recent visit to its China operations suggests that ECS is executing well in the mainland as well as its other markets. ECS is cheap, especially based on P/BV and P/Sales, relative to its industry peers, and remains an attractive M&A target for US-listed ICT distributors looking for an immediate presence in Asia. We have kept our FY06-08 EPS estimates but have raised our target price from S$0.48 to S$0.61 as we roll over our 1.2x historical P/BV target basis to CY07, offering 65% upside. This is within the trading range of competitors such as Digital China (0861 HK, HK$2.55, NR), Frontline (FT SP, S$0.12, NR) and USlisted ICT distributors. Maintain Outperform as we see potential catalysts from more earnings growth announcements. Maintain Outperform as we see potential catalysts from more earnings growth announcements.

form DBS: Story: Net profit grew 22% y-o-y and 4% q-o-q to S$5.5m,

Undervalued stock. ECS is trading at FY07 PE of 6x, compared to its

Think analysts rates fair value of this tock at 48cts. Yes, this business has razor thin margins....my earlier analysis showed that its margins improves with higher turnover due to economies of scale by keeping overhead costs steady . For example, if T/O improves say 20%, profit may improve 30%. Yield is not generous.....otherwise I would not have minded holding on to it. |

I kept this stock for 3 years now. It is a well run company but the problem with IT products distribution is razor thin margin. Take sg market for example, competition is very steep. I do agree with most of your comments and I think it is really difficult to crop up some sexy stories to move the stock wild. I also noticed that there are some buying in 100K lots but it all ends there and it starts to drift sideway. Even the mid day release of 3Q results does not move a bit unlike in previous Qtrs report that swing the stock up by 2c or so beside settling lower. I think only 3 brokers cover the stock. NTA a whopping 55c when compare with its closing 37c. Is this enough to move the stock. Think not so. At the end of day, I will keep the stock unless something negative happens and I will be first to take profit. |

Vested in this counter end 2004/beginning 2005..........collected some div for FY 2004, then got impatient with it and divested 1Q this year....but still made about 25% capital gain. Sleepy stock ....but ST Eng holds 28% (I think) of this counter. Their cost is about 34cts. This was the main reason I took position on this counter.....hoping there will be some spin off from having STE as substantial stakeholder...... but nothing significant so far. |
