Singaporegal... :) From your posts, I can see you have a genuine interest in 'spiritual' matters too,('spiritual' meaning the human, psychological and cultural aspects of humans). To me, to be spiritual does not necessarily mean 'adopting' a particular religion. Rather, it is the state of being able to intimately understand the various human motivations and aspirations, and the suffering of humans, and the true nature of the world we live in. A truly spiritual person can very easily be in tune with any religion and have an implicit understanding of it, and thus have real compassion.... without any compulsive need to change others... |

Hi, Mani, Asterisk, Jng1103 and Chinkiasu and all others. Me an old man in my 40s, retired in year 2000, wound up my business after making a decision within only 3 days of thinking...haha..dun ask me why, just feel enough is enough, i am a wired fella. Been enjoying life by going to places since then without any stress (the only stress and worries come from within my own inner soul - Mani might understand if he's into Buddhism ). Been watching with interest in the financial market for years but never lay a finger on it....seen many friends make and break in this sector overnight....just like in the horse punting circle. Have predicted many stocks, shares, funds and commodities without any TA nor FA knowledge and felt i was quite good at it....so, decided to ride on the bullish wave in April since evryone is talking about shares and i feel left out not knowing what they are saying (but putting in REAL money and by just predicting is altogether 2 different matter). Barebone ? Skeleton cos i am skinny and perhaps i feel when a person goes one fine day, it's only skeleton left whatever credit/debit good/bad you have generated during your entire life time Haha..enuff of an intro ? Oh...one more thing, i am not very highly literate so many of what u guys transpired here sound very 'chimp' to me leh. Cheers |

Thanks Mani... I read your posts on religion with interest. I'm pretty interested in ALL religions because I'm a history buff. That's why I love to visit places like Turkey and Greece (not been there yet!) where the history is so deep. |

I am sure forummers are glad to see Singaporegal here ..., especially in this thread... :) The recent incident in SJ certainly affected the jovial spirit quite a bit... Furthermore, the performance of property stocks during the last few weeks have been dismal and discouraging... and then now the bad vibes in these stocks seem to be growing... |

Hi elfie, Good to see you back in SJ. I've been busy recently and the past couple of weeks had some "bad vibes" so I didn't want to post too much. Anyway, I'm glad to see that things are getting back to normal in the Fellowship thread. |

Chinkiasu... :)
Your faith is obvious... and that is something so personal to the individual... that no one should attempt to 'shake' that belief on a personal level. Though I myself does not know the actual definition of the terms "Agnostic or Atheist" ... I would object strongly to being labelled as agnostic/atheist. Like I said, I am very much into living the ideas of Buddhism and the Tao itself, especially the latter, since its principles are universally applicable and thus everlasting. On the question of believing in things, if something is one's chosen belief, then one must not question further to 'know the truth'... Because the very nature of belief itself forbids further questioning... |

my dear mani... your statement about "I am very much into spiritual living as a person, as opposed to unquestioning belief in any propounded ideas" bears examination...... are you saying a person who believes in God or in your words "an external 'supreme living person' " is unquestioning? also may we know than what is your definition of agnostic and athesit.. ???? |

hi Fairygal... I went this morning to have a look at that fig tree to take pics.. but I couldnt see any fruit. Instead I saw a few composite flowers.. and took the pics.. Can I confirm this one is that very tall tree about 50ft immediately in front of the ROM... yes fruitty, I think your are talking about organically grown fruits/vegetables? This is now big business in the US.. but it cost much more... but you are right that it is more healthy... welcome Skeleton..!!! yes Index Points (Market Indices) can be traded. It is called Exchange Traded Fund or commonly abbreviated to ETF According to Investopedia, it is defined as "A security that tracks an index, a commodity or a basket of assets like an index fund, but trades like a stock on an exchange, thus experiencing price changes throughout the day as it is bought and sold. Because it trades like a stock whose price fluctuates daily, an ETF does not have its net asset value (NAV) calculated every day like a mutual fund does." By owning an ETF, you get the diversification of an index fund as well as the ability to sell short, buy on margin and purchase as little as one share. Another advantage is that the expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund. When buying and selling ETFs, you have to pay the same commission to your broker that you'd pay on any regular order. One of the most widely known ETFs is called the SPDR (Spider), which tracks the S&P 500 index and trades under the symbol SPY. |
