eh, no prob, godpa. fwah...just fin posting on eastonbay's straitsasia. lucky i saved it before posting man; SJ auto logged me out before i could post. haha. everyone, go see go see! bwah haha. but no, seriously, it's a good eg of BB manipulation. quite rare now in this current market since it's mainly a hodge podge of private funds and irrational gungho retailers. and ya lah. dont think too much abt BBs and all. just find something that suits your style and that you know you can do for the next decades. have fun while at it. |

hey jerome, agree with baseerahmed. if you're new to the market; don't get caught up in all the stories of BBs etc. it's likely to make you feel hunted. hehe. just learn to read your charts well, and whether you can or cannot figure out the BBs' psychology, really, it won't much matter since the charts will show the patterns. you just buy when it says buy, sell when it says sell. of course, if you can figure out the motives behind the movement, it's better; but if even if you can't (since we can't be right all the time anyway), as long as you're good in whatever charts you read, that's good enough already. eastonbay and godpa, i'll post respectively on the ste, spc and straitsresource asia threads, so that it's more proper and less confusing (more like less long posts haha) to forumers? thanks! godpa's request first, of course. eastonbay, you can wait. :P |

j3r0m3 Just a thought .... Personally , I think let's not worry too much about the BBs. I believe the important thing is learn to read the charts and indicators/oscillators more accurately and skillfully and conquering our emotions of admitting wrong decisions and taking remedial steps without flinching . Discover a simple trading system according to ur own personality , back test it , run paper trade , and have the discipline to follow the rules u have created. It is said that charts reflect market sentiments and manipulations by BB, are also factored into the charts. Just keep the BB at the back of mind when interpreting the charts. The psycology , putting a side egos, discipline in cutting loss ...conquering one's emotions are really what matters ... Just sharing the learning ...and learning still ...hahaha ! |

on Thursday was the 22nd of the last 25 trading sessions in which the Dow rose. As several investment newsletter editors I monitor pointed out, the last time this happened was 1955.
But what does this mean for the future? Is it a good sign that the recent stock market has been stronger, at least by this definition, than at any other time over the past five decades? Or is it a bad omen, on the grounds that the market is now more overextended than at any other time over the past 50 years?
To find out, I analyzed the Dow's daily returns back to 1896, when the benchmark was created. Here's what I found.
First, never has the Dow risen for 23 of the previous 25 trading sessions. So the market's current achievement is in a tie for the most number of gains in a 25-trading day period.
Second, prior to 1955, there was only one other occasion in which the Dow produced a gain in 22 out of 25 trading sessions. This other occasion occurred in late July-early August 1927.
So we only have a sample size of just two. That's not big enough to enable us to draw statistically significant inferences.
But, for the record, I should report that the Dow had a mixed record following those two instances. But over the month following each of those two instances, the Dow rose on one occasion and fell on the other. Over the quarter following each of them, the Dow fell in both instances.
However, the DJIA was higher a year after each of these two prior cases, nearly 19% higher in the earlier case, and nearly 8% higher following the later one.

yah. agree with the lallang concept. same thing lah! follow trend! sheesh... hm, jerome, BBs are the ones who set the trend. So what hay bees do is to try our best to follow the trend they set. since by virtue of fund size, they dictate the market movement. they catch us out by simpler means. all your analysts report that read: recommended, BUY, and the psychological tactics, like what's happening with low betas like edmi and ek now: market moves up, these two counters go down: when you look at the vol of ek and edmi, it's actually very small--ie, only retailers selling, BBs are not moving at all. but price is dropping. So what's actually happening? They're waiting out the small fishies, who see market shooting up, and get frustrated and go, "hell! market shooting up, why my counter never move?! sell, go buy xyz other counter!", and when one sells, the rest follows, price drops further, other retailers panic and sell. It's a cycle. But meanwhile, BBs aren't selling at all. and at the dip, that is when they mop up the free float. which is why, for most ppl, after they release a stock, they'll wonder why it went up after that. It's a game of patience. sometimes they'll purposely depress price and make it very volatile to shake out the small fries, too. like edmi, on two of the previous trading days last mth, after price shot up entire day, someone threw down 1 miserable lot at closing bell to depress the price so that it closes down. ok, nuff for now. godpa, yea, lots of money, but what are they parking it in? one of the Templeton fund managers was quoted as saying that, now more than ever, even beating the times of the 1997 crisis, most of his funds are in cash. They've locked in/out already, i think. waiting for correction....not likely soon yet tho. |

baseerahmad, i agree with you on the lalang concept. However would there be cases when the BBs just want to go against the trend in the hope of catching small fries like me out? After all, the only way the BBs win is by somebody else losing, |

Hi j3r0m3 ... and if I may add , earlier this week Elf had an excellent posting on how the BB=Big Boys=Instituinoal players work . u can read them by clicking on the 'older' postings above. mmm if I can make a bold statement .... these are people , if we are not careful and vigilant , who make us lose our money .. and the only way we can grab something is being like lalang grass and move with the BB ie follow the trend ..hahaha ! the tools that could help us to make friends with the trend is TA ..... .... hope I said that correct things .... hahaha ! |

j3rom3 BB=big boys=big brothers=big bullies=bad boys.Take ur pick. Elf Just my humble opinion. I observed that the foreign Fund managers have alot of money to spend. In todays australian news,it is said that they have up to A$9 billion of funds but nowhere to park. And everyday, money keep coming in to the fund managers from ordinary ppl for then to invest. These fund mgrs then have to look o/seas hoping for betterROI.I noticed the Banks are the beneficary of big px push up.Same scenario in ASX. It can also be a case of 'u scratch my back ,i scratch ur back' scenario. The fund mgr buy up spore index stocks, thus the STI is up and the spore fund mgrs buy up ASX index shares. Just my thought. |
