Dengue-Fever-Symptoms-and-Prevention-Pic
The dengue fever epidemic in S/pore is on the rise and does not appear to be slowing down. With three strains of the virus being equally active – a rare occurrence – weekly infection cases are at a six-year high. As experts fear this year’s outbreak could even surpass S'pore’s worst dengue outbreak in 2005, (authorities logged 14,006 confirmed cases. The number of deaths in 2005 ended at 27). “Furthermore, with four different strains around, one can easily be infected with a different strain.” Related video: Taking a trip or planning for one? Watch this video first! In first week of June, a total of 400 new cases were reported, bringing the total number of dengue cases to cross the 9,000. It total number of dengue cases subsequently crossed the 10,000 mark on 18 June 2013, and now hitting 11,000 ++.   |

Diet Soda
The bad effects of having soda is not only due to its high sugar content and high calories. Even diet soda causes many harms to our body. Soda contains some ingredients that have different known and unknown effects. As an example of these weird effects, a new Danish research shows that drinking non-diet soda builds up fat around the liver and skeletal muscles, which eventually leads to insulin resistance and diabetes. This research also shows that having only one soda a day for six month, causes 30 percent increase in blood triglyceride and 11 percent increase in blood cholesterol, which is really a big deal! Health is Wealth! Cheers! |

http://my.news.yahoo.com/papaya-tree-leaves-a-way-to-cure-dengue-062124867.html know that papaya tree in your backyard? It’s got a secret remedy. Here’s what it is: While we know that the papaya fruit is a great source of vitamins A and C, its leaves hold the possible answer to treating dengue fever. This is what a group of Malaysian researchers have found: juice extracted from papaya leaves helps increase the platelet count in patients with dengue fever. To put this in perspective, there has been no real cure to a serious dengue infection to date. Dengue has plagued Malaysia since 2002, with a whopping 20,000 case reported last year. |

http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Asia/Story/A1Story20110407-272378.html'Superbug' found in New Delhi waterNEW DELHI  - Urgent global action is needed to prevent the spread of a multi-drug-resistant " superbug" after it was found in water supplies in the Indian capital, doctors said in research published Thursday. The study in The Lancet medical journal said that New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase 1 (NDM-1) producing bacteria were found in 51 out of 171 samples taken from water pools and rivulets and two out of 50 tap water samples in the city. NDM-1, first identified in 2009, is a gene that enables some types of bacteria to be highly resistant to almost all antibiotics. Positive samples included those collected in and around the commercial and business hub of Connaught Place and the Red Fort area. " International surveillance of resistance, incorporating environmental sampling as well as examination of clinical isolates needs to be established as a priority," the team from Cardiff University in Britain wrote. Mohammed Shahid, from the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state, added that potential for a wider, international spread of the superbug was " real and should not be ignored."   |
