elfie, In the govt sector (as in most organisations), when a person is selected to travel frequently, it is an indication that he/she is earmarked for bigger things. Good to see (and not surprising) that your career is taking off after a mere 4 months......keep it up!!!! Glad to have you join us (my real family) on our next trip to Trengganu..... |

hey, mack the knife! i like that song. hehe. yep shplayer, real family as opposed to this virtual one i've got here. human sharks vs sharks, may i quote mark twain, that "the only difference between a dog and a man is that the dog will not bite the hand that feeds it." k, elf gonna be busy next mth. will be out of country at some pt. stock market: May will be volatile. same patterns. watch out for mid to end may. expecting mini-correction then. perhaps less of a correction, more of a slump. divergence between news and what is actually happening in share prices already. so earliest harbinger of a real correction is out. shdn't be for at least a few mths tho. tech/momentum traders do be careful; news might happen faster than indicators can react. value investors perhaps less worry there; DCA and patience will be your tools here. tata! |

Oh yes, think they have a turtle hatchery research center at the marine park. For snorkling, think they also provide life jackets for the non swimmers.....thats what the resorts do......but not sure of StarCruise practice. |

hi singaporegal, the redang marine park is only a beach and really nothing else. :o) no village or town there. the only things to see is the corals (though i think the corals there are not so colorful now), n the beautiful fishes surrounding you beyond the water. if the non-swimmers can't swim, in my opinion,no point they go there, spend 35 bucks (snorkeling mask n lifejacket provided) n do nothing there. Or each of the non-swimmers go buy a floating board in Singapore n bring along, and you just pull the board along when snorkelling...... if you / the swimmer friends don't mind tedious a bit...meaning one hand of yours is doing the bag of bread n swim ahead, n the other hand pull the board. but ur non-swimmer friend also must kick the water lah, if a bit hard to move ahead....or best they use the board alone to snorkel themselves. nobody will laugh or bother if they use floating board as it is mass crowd of ard 170 ppl. if they decide not to go, u can still meet them back in cruise ship ard 4.15pm after u swimmers back from marine park, and board the next boat to laguna redang resort. btw, the staffs don't give training lesson on how to use the snorkel mask. you have to teach the non-swimmers friends yourself. oh ya, in case u are thinking, there is no internet on star virgo, all the PCs have the 'Internet not available' sign. Ask a friend to update you the stock price through sms if you want. ~~~~~~~~~ chinkiasu, pls give me ur email address, thank u. slimsk, i email u the Irfanview software already. |

elfie, What do you mean by 'real family'? Yeah, I usually go with my family ,,,,,,,think they are real. Singaporegal, Redang has a collection of resorts......the staff of the resorts are all from the mainland and they are provided quarters by the resorts when they are working. Don't think there is any town or village. There is a golf course at the Berjaya resort.....but have not been there myself so cannot comment on the quality of the course. Can also do jungle trekking....but not very pleasant cos the resort operators are not too eco friendly. They do not remove thrash from the island...and there is no incinerator there either. All the thrash are disposed at the back of the resorts......even though they bag them, the monkeys will raid it breaking the bags......perfect breeding site for flies. ....urrghhhh!!!! |

Hi fortunegal, Ask you.... is there anything to do at Redang besides snorkelling? I have some people coming along that can't swim.... hehehehe.... Any village or town there where they can hang out? Okie okie... I shall listen to all of you and try to forget about the sharks in the ocean. I keep feeling that they hate me because I love sharks fins soup. |

Just to add to elfie's post.......each time we are on the boat, sailing out to the open sea, the vastness of the ocean ahead seems like a time warp machine.......transporting us from the rigours of city life to the serenity of what lies ahead for the day. The clutter of all the worries/concerns of your life (like ....STI up/dn...DOW up/dn etc) harboured in your mind seems to just disappear in a puff of smoke....as you would see in a magic movie. It is an experience of a complete transportation in mind and body to a world free of worries, peace, solitude and sun, sand and sea ...albeit only temporarily. |

keke, singaporegal, don't think so much lah. just go there and enjoy. don't pack so much into a day that you forget to live in the moment. remember the rule of the sea tho, 'cos redang is under marine conservation laws: take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints. :) to add in to fortunegal's tips: how we normally feed the fishies is to stuff bread into the mouth of an empty mineral water bottle. this way, you can feed them by hand without them biting your fingers (enthusiastic fishes lah). you can get them very close up this way. and geez, do relax about the sharks. they're really just harmless small ones, if you even see any. i dun think likely tho...oh, and look out for dolphins on the horizon. april/may is the season of the dolphins. and haha. don't havta bring bread from home. just take it from the buffet breakfast. :P shplayer is right tho; i personally prefer the places away from the crowd. haven't been on the cruise but stayed at redang itself. lovely, lovely place. would def opt for the private charter option in future. trengganu has lovely waters. redang, perhentian are just off it. fully agree with him on its beauty. aiyah, kitten, don't worry lah. as long as you don't misbehave, elf will take care of you. ok? good boy! *patpat* and your missy elfie is a nature person lah...i grew up by the sea. you can't take me away from the water. :) From Yukio Mishima, "that children of the sea live, forever haunted, by the freedom of wild things." you just love the simplicity of wide, open spaces, the sky and stars above, and the scent of the salt sea. the silence, away from people. given a choice, i'd choose to live on water rather than on land. sigh.. ah well. haha, bunnie, i like the 'halt from trading' and 'delist from the market' thing. haha. hm. what does 'elf-like' mean tho...yea chinkiasu, it was very very good seeing my bunnie. :))) i've only met shplayer, my dear gege victorian (who's probably busy digging up his sweet potatoes now *sheesh*). might be good to see ppl and put a face to the nicks.. perhaps when godpa gets to singapore? mustn't leave him out, definitely. :) and singaporegal. i wanna meet singaporegal. keke. ok. byes. happily alcoholing away now. keke. |

shplayer, thanks for ur suggestion! lazing on some isolated island with beautiful white sandy beach sound a wonderful idea! will consider it next round when i am less water probia with deep sea (snorkelling in deep sea is still a challenge for me). ;o) chinkiasu, can u give me ur email address again (pai say think u give me before in simonloh thread right), thank u. i will email u the Irfanview installation program, only abt 851 KB. ~~~~~~~~~~ singaporegal, forget to tell u, when u go snorkelling, nobody will take care of your stuffs on the beach (cos most likely ur camera is in ur bag).... but so far, i didn't lose anything n i didn't hear anybody lose anything. the star cruise ppl will not be in charge of taking care of our stuffs too, just for ur info. so should be safe, in my opinion. U will be given a daily paper schedule on the activities and what time the restaurants open, pls read through carefully to plan your activities well, as nobody will brief u when step into the ship. oh ya i forget to tell u, for the 2nd day, try wake up by 6.30am to catch the 7am sunrise at level 13 top deck. :o) then hop down to 'galaxy of the stars' area for light breakfast or photo taking. if u miss it, still okie, cos one of the days, the sunrise will be right in front of your balcony cabin (depending on ur cabin direction). my room no is 958 that day, the sunrise only appear at balcony view on the 3rd day when back from redang to spore. so u go figure out which direction the sunrise come out lah when u r there. :p |

fortunegal, Good that you had a good time at Redang. Although I did not go with the cruise, I did stay at the resorts on Redang a couple of times. Whilst I had a good time, I found the catering to the masses somewhat not to my liking. My subsequent trips to Trengganu and the Redang area via chartering a boat to yourself was a trememdous experience. Everything was personnalised to your preference and schedule. In one day of charter, you can experience game fishing (if you are lucky, you can snare a marlin or sailfish), bottom fishing, snorkling, kayaking and just lazing and sunbathing on the boat or some isolated island with beautiful white sandy beach. We had even more fun when we chartered the boat together with a couple of friends and their families. This way, it had the added advantage of sharing the cost of the charter and as it was, it cost about the same (or less) as a stay on the island. Do try it when you can the next time. Sounds like I am advertising but I'm just want to share my experience with you guys....afterall, I have been making trips up there (often more than once a year) for the past 8 years or so....and I have foud this an ideal getaway to sun, sand and sea. |

Dear fortunegal, Many many grateful thanks for posting so many helpful tips! Kam Sia! I will print out your post and bring it with me on the cruise. I'm going in about 4 weeks time. I will bring along a whole loaf of Gardinia bread to feed the fishes! hahaha! |
