synnexo, my suggestion will still be to skip portugal/spain that area coz it's out of the way from hw i see it, and also, i rather relax and enjoy more in italy and do countries that are beside it like france, swiss, etc. sorry, to me, it juz doesn't make sense. esp since u mentioned u will be going swiss/austria that area in another trip, so why not swap it w spain/portugal now? ok back to your plan, hmm...it looks very cramped and hurried. backpacking to me is already tiring enough (coz i old bunnie liao and to carry a damn 45L backpack is no joke! ), and to hurry thru' the sights is gonna take my breath out. why don't u put your extra 2 days in one or two of the italian cities? like venice, rome, florence. u need a day to pisa so u are not left w alot of time in florence. as for cost, i agree w uncle kiasu. try midnite trains. u save at least 1 nite accommodation cost. if i had not lost 100euros in budapest, and missed a train to krakow, so 2 extra train tix cost have to be factored in (that explained why bratislava was "incld" into the route), the whole trip would have cost me less than 2k. have fun planning, that's the fun of backpacking btw, what do u use to plan your trip? lonely planet? |

what a wonderful world... *big smile* b4 i forget, slimsk, that was almost 4 yrs ago, and exchange rate was about 1euros = 2.1sgd. i went Sg-budapest, budapest-bratislava, brati-krakow and krakow-prague. accommodation was the most ex in budapest coz idiotic fren booked a real hotel that cost like 100euros(?) a nite i think (something like that but cannot really recall). i stayed in a double-roomed hostel for abt 20euros/pax/nite in brati; a private room for 10euros/pax/nite in krakow and in prague, 22-23euros/pax/nite. the last 2 places did not incld b/f. all were walking distances to the old town (central place), esp in prague. practically lived 'next door' to old town. i'm usually not fussy about where i stay, but at least the environmt muz be safe and beds muz be clean. whether attached toilet or not, not major lah, as long as it's not too far from my room. be open-minded about hostels. they are fun. really. also, there are differ types of hostels. some offer co-ed dorms which of coz i would mind greatly too. but some also have all men/ladies 4-bedded rooms. like in prague, the hostel i stayed in was a 5-bedded all-women room, and there were only 2 of us for the 1st 2 nites we stayed. most if not all hostels would have single or double rooms so u can still stay in a hostel and yet get a 2-bedded room. but of coz rooms like that will be more ex than a dorm or more-bedded rooms. my tix at that time was a steal. S$900 for an open jawed tix (sg-budapest/prague-sg), transited in amsterdam. and i went in end june, slightly b4 the summer hols began in Europe. |

yes Eastonbay... but I have not yet aquire a good taste for it....I find it too flavourful... and prefer the lighter fresh taste of the shao xing... I also like mao tai (sorghum), it was my first real (official business) Chinese drink... but I cannot drink too much of it... |

hi Auntie Bunnie...!!! u ah... like shi2san1jie4.. your sense of justice is showing... I think no worries, I am very sure Geojam can easily afford to blanja us dinner... even at tower club.. but you are probably right on this first occasion, we should keep the group small so that we can fully welcome Song Jiang to Liangshan... as for me I try to bring something exotic from Sub Sahara Africa... |

chinkiasu, the good grade wu-liang-ye (a kind of gao-liang) is also nice, made from 5 different 'liang' corn, wheat (both da-mai and xiao mai), rice, sorghum. |

waah... looks like the heros of the fellowhip, notable exception Geojam are also a bunch of "jiu kwee"... ha ha... I love any kind of drinks, so long as it contain alcohol... I even take coffee or tea with bailey's - folks should try it. Recently I am into chinese 20 year rice wines like shao xing jiu - like sake, they dont give hangovers.. maybe for the August dinner with Geojam, I bring baileys... or r you keen to try Amarula (the favorite fruit/drink of elephants) ? or maybe ugali, if I can solve the problem that like cooked rice it has to be prepared fresh.. |
