What you say is true. There will be a short-term knee jerk reaction for a few days. After that, markets will shrug it off and resume its uptrend in general. All other things being constant that is.

Get ready for a rocky ride tomorrow. This single piece of news will weigh on STI for the next couple of days even though much of it has already been factored into the market. Especially if you have been observing the bank counters. Purpose of increasing interest rate is to control inflation, ie. to prevent further rise of prices of properties, food, energy resources etc.  Affected counters in particular : Properties, Banks and Commodities including oil. You can find some counters to short that have run up recently. If not into shorting, just wait for bottom fishing and buy at cheap prices. I will be very careful with the month of February, simple because Dow earnings season is ending and impetus for the market to run up further will dry up and correction could hit us when we least expect it.  For this month, I would only trade on news and earnings announcements. Quick trades of not more than 3 days would be preferable. DBS will announce this Friday. Analysts expect it DBS earnings to be up 30% q-on-q. All the best folks     |

BEIJING (AFP) - – China's central bank on Tuesday raised interest rates for the third time in four months, as authorities ramp up efforts to tame inflation amid fears it could trigger social unrest. The People's Bank of China said in a brief statement that it would raise the one-year deposit and lending rates by 25 basis points each, taking the rates to 3.0 percent and 6.06 percent respectively. In October, policymakers raised rates for the first time in nearly three years as they try to restrain a flood of liquidity which has been fanning inflation and driving up property prices. They hiked them again on Christmas Day. China's consumer price index, or CPI, rose 4.6 percent year-on-year in December, down from 5.1 percent in November, which was the fastest rate in more than two years. The full-year CPI was up 3.3 percent, exceeding Beijing's official target of three percent. The government has raised its CPI target to four percent for 2011, as it is forced to acknowledge its limits in constraining prices. Ever fearful of inflation's historical potential to spark social unrest, authorities have already pulled on a variety of levers to try and rein in consumer prices and tame the real-estate sector. These include the three interest rate hikes and a number of bank reserve requirement ratio increases. But last month, Zhou Xiaochuan, the central bank's governor, warned that inflation was still higher than expected and said authorities had to remain vigilant, suggesting another rate hike could be on the horizon.

ehh... time your entry, go with the trend of the counter and general market. TA is a reference, just to support or provide you with the confidence that this entry is nicely timed entry... dunno if its a good example.. but..just like playing guess small or big.... if big open 20 times and small open 1 time.. what are the odds big will open?.. what are the odds small will open?... no one knows )

I understand where you are coming from...     and I am not trying to beat around the bush... :)           If you can  the lines, (and also between), you will know                 what I am saying is that TA is only a reference for our betting...                         And that the simpler our TA, the better                               and the more 'indepth' or complicated our TA,                                     it makes absolutely no difference to the betting...                                             because all is still betting (on the outcome)... |

aiya, i use robots because if i ask " trader A's knowledge of TA is 75% more than trader B's TA knowledge.... who will be more likely to be betting at the best times?" i have a feeling that the answer will be..... having more knowledge of TA does not necessarily make one a better trader.... alot of people know what to do, but are unable to execute it..... lol i just want to find out the importance of TA..... assuming that one is able to control his/her emotions and is able to  execute the trades without  any hesistation,  how important/useful is TA in enabling him/her to enter at almost the best timing?

A human can easily beat a robot if one knows how it 'thinks'..     On the other hand, one can know how humans think...         but one cannot tell how they are going to react... |

Robots are made by humans...     Thus, they are nothing but machines programmed with human assumptions (algorithms).             No matter how 'smart' they are, robots can still never be rich...                   They are still betting against collective humans...

ya, but  say for example, there are two trading robots: trading  robot A and  trading  robot B..... trading robot  A's knowledge of TA is 75% more than trading robot  B's TA knowledge.... who will be more likely to be betting at the best times? PS: i use robots as example because i'm keeping everything else constant ie no emotions are involved........

One can only bet at the best times...      If one thinks one can be smarter than the stock market.           one will invariably be 'smacked' by the market                     at the most appropriate time... |

You must at the same time, also pray to     " KuanYin niang-niang" (Chinese Goddess of Mercy)...             If not, then she will think you are 'pian xin' (favoritism) ...
