SBST Q3 earnings dive 44% to $3.5m
SBS Transit's (SBST) net profit for the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2013, slumped 43.8 per cent to $3.54 million, hit by losses at its two biggest businesses - bus and rail. Revenue rose 7.4 per cent to $218.85 million on higher bus and rail revenue. But operating expenses rose 9.5 per cent to $213.52 million from a year earlier resulting in operating profit falling 39.1 per cent to $5.33 million. Items contributing to higher operating expenses include staff costs (up 12.6 per cent at $98.84 million), repairs and maintenance (up 14.7 per cent at $28.33 million) and higher energy costs (up 2.7 per cent at $44.82 million). |

SBS Transit Ltd announced that it has been awarded the tender to operate Singapore ’s fifth mass rapid transit line, the Downtown Line. The award of the 19-year licence means that the Company will more than double its share of the rail network in Singapore – from 40km currently, to 82km. http://sgsharemarket.com/home/2011/08/singapore-company-highlights-31082011/?=SBS   |

one of the " boring" counters hahaha   Uncle Ti 88 http://uncleti88.blogspot.com/ ---- I trade using simple moving average and Commitment of Traders Proxy (COT Proxy) + some other special ingredients that Colonel Sanders will be proud of. I win some I lose some. But I make sure my wins make up more than the losses!

Attacked, but they just stared My sister and I have lost faith in the kindness of Singaporeans — except for one Letter from Irene Teo ON SATURDAY evening, my sister boarded SBS bus No 30 along West Coast Road, heading for the Esplanade. She took a seat on the upper deck. A male passenger took the seat next to her, positioning himself very close to my sister. She asked him to give her a little space. In response, he inched even closer. Then, to her utter surprise, he punched her several times on her head. My sister tried to defend herself, but she was no match for this man. He held her wrists and continued his attack, hitting her on the head and in the stomach. As a result of the attack, my sister sustained bruises on her head, neck and arms. The struggle lasted for 30 minutes and was witnessed by all the passengers seated on the upper deck, but during the entire incident, not one of them tried to intervene and stop the attack. None of the passengers even bothered to help my sister pick up her belongings. Only one passenger — Benjamin Tan Wei Kiong — who had been seated on the lower deck came to her aid. Benjamin heard the commotion and headed upstairs. He asked the bus driver to stop the bus and call the police. But the driver refused to, saying that the SBS command centre had told him to drive on. After this shocking incident, there are a few crucial issues I want to highlight: • Why didn’t the bus driver stop the bus? Driving on meant my sister, as well as other passengers on the bus, was put at risk of another attack. • Why didn’t the bus driver contact the police? Surely all bus personnel have been trained as to what to do when a passenger is assaulted. Even if he had been instructed to drive on and not stop, couldn’t he have assessed the severity of the situation and taken action? • Most importantly, why did no one on the upper deck come forward to help my sister? Thanks to the inaction and apathy of the spectators on the bus, my sister is nursing not just her physical bruises but also the emotional hurt from the fact that no one bothered to help her. This incident has made me lose faith in the kindness of Singaporeans. The only glimmer of hope is the existence of Good Samaritans such as 22-yearold Benjamin, who helped my sister and who later spent his Saturday night at the police station with us. |

Whats the prospect for Buses service company? Perhaps, if i were to choose , i would prefer SMRT company. My own view - Biggest challenges in singapore's urban transportation would be facing : is to limit the buses plying on the roads for we have invested heavily on Mass rapit transportation system(MRT) and, how to go about doing this 1) buses be used only as 'feeder service' to those secluded areas where its far frm mrt stations 2) what happen to those excess buses? they be converted to use as school buses and be allowed to travel on the express way becos by then, the express way will have lesses care for ppl who dont need a car, will opt to use MRT. These converted buses can also be used to ferry NS men to camp or vice versa at a designated pick up point etc. 3) Less road accidents ..... |

Thanks for your info. Normal trade for other in 1000 lot and this counter only request to have mininum number of share 500 as the lot size . Example here: If share price is 1.75. We can invest starting at number of share with minumum 500 lot and pay for SGD 875. If purchase 600 lot, to pay only sgd 1050. or every trade the number of share must be in 500 ? 1000? 1500? and so on? Thanks. |

the number behind the stock name indicates the number of shares that the stock is trading in, ie SBS 500 means SBS shares are traded in blocks of 500 shares, NOT 500 lots. hope this helps.

May I know what is the meaning of the "500" behind SBSTransit? It similar to Singtel 100 which is the multiplies of 100 lot? Please help to clear my doubt and thanks. |

SBS Transit's Q3 profit up 27% to $10.6 mln Lower energy costs and government measures helped SBS Transit to offset the temporary fare reduction to post a 27.2 per cent increase in net profit to $10.58 million for the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2009. |

Capacity n biz footprint far diff loh!! SB opt only MRT NE line, d rest SMRT bao liao. SB opt LRT on Senkang n Punggol. SMRT take part in Bkt Panjang. No significant in comparision. Generally, SMRT is a dominant player in d nation's rail n/w n its biz at taxis have a sinificant protern in Spore vibrant transport landscape. It will still own most of d remaining new rail n/w, on completion.
